Sansiri Transforms Sansiri Backyard into a Market for Thai Farmers' Produce to Help Generate Income for Farmers Facing Low Prices
Sansiri continues its support for Thai farmers by announcing the use of the Sansiri Backyard space at T77 Community as a market for agricultural products in the heart of the city. After purchasing over 80,000 kilograms of ginger from farmers in the northern region who are currently facing severe hardships due to the economic downturn and a surplus of produce leading to low prices and a lack of buyers, the company has distributed the ginger to residents, affiliated companies, partners, and over 30 organizations. This reinforces Sansiri's commitment to "not leaving anyone behind," aiming to generate income for farmers amid falling agricultural prices, while ensuring that fruits and vegetables are not wasted as food waste.

Everyone is invited to join in purchasing ginger to support farmers. The first market for ginger at Sansiri Backyard will take place from September 16 to 18, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. It is clearly stated that for every kilogram of ginger sold at the event, Sansiri will contribute an additional four times the amount to help farmers further. The funds will be used to purchase various products from groups of farmers facing price drops, hoping to support their income so they can live without hardship and inspire those who can to help those in need, allowing Thai farmers to stand strong once again.

“Because the strong must help the weak…” said “Sethaput Thaveesin,” CEO of Sansiri, who purchased 80,000 kilograms of ginger from farmers in the northern region after they faced severe hardships due to low prices and a lack of buyers. Previously, they could sell ginger for 20-30 baht per kilogram, but now the price has dropped to just 1 baht. “The bags of ginger at the homes of villagers in Chiang Rai are not waste; they are ginger that no one is buying from farmers. Sansiri has purchased 80,000 kilograms at a price higher than the market rate, hoping to help them. Anyone interested in receiving ginger can contact us,” Sethaput tweeted via Twitter @thavisin.

The oversupply of ginger not only impacts farmers but also contributes to the growing food waste problem in Thailand, which has now reached 60% of total waste. Sansiri emphasizes the importance of helping society and the environment, recognizing the value of every product. Therefore, it has taken the initiative to assist northern farmers by purchasing 80,000 kilograms of ginger to distribute to the community, residents, schools, partners, and affiliated companies, turning it into food, beverages, or beneficial products. It’s time to unite and not increase food waste, bringing smiles back to farmers.
....Sustainable assistance for farmers once again. For those who wish to support farmers with Sansiri, join us at the ginger market “Help Farmers, Buy Ginger Home” from September 16 to 18, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Sansiri Backyard, selling at 5 baht per kilogram. All proceeds from the sales will be matched by Sansiri four times to help purchase products from farmers facing price drops. The hope is to create smiles and provide income for Thai farmers to stand strong once again. Sansiri plans to continuously transform Sansiri Backyard into a market for agricultural products to help farmers nationwide facing price drops and provide a new sales channel for struggling farmers to sell directly to customers without price pressure from middlemen. Additionally, it aims to inspire urban dwellers who can help those in need.
Last year, under the “No One Left Behind” initiative, Sansiri supported over 14 tons of watermelon from farmers in Kalasin and 12 tons of lychee from Lamphun, distributing them to over 1,000 Sansiri households and communities affected by COVID-19, as well as sending over 6 tons of mangoes from farmers to feed elephants in Chiang Mai. Sansiri remains committed to continuously supporting society at all levels.
