EKH Launches KOON Palliative Care Specialized Hospital, the First Premium Palliative Care Facility in Thailand
Ekachai Medical Public Company Limited (EKH) has officially launched the "KOON Hospital" or KOON Palliative Care Specialized Hospital, catering to the elderly community in an environment that feels like a home away from home. Situated on a 2-rai plot, the 5-story building accommodates 33 patient rooms, making it the first specialized hospital in Thailand dedicated to palliative care, with an investment of 160 million baht. A team of expert doctors will provide care for both general and terminal patients under the concept... Be near, be around, be with.

Dr. Amnat Uea-Aree-Mit, a board member and director of Ekachai Medical Hospital, revealed that people today are increasingly focusing on the quality of life for themselves and their families, encompassing physical, mental, social, and spiritual care. This includes intensive management of discomfort, especially for those who are ill, as being in a good environment can provide the motivation to continue living. Inspired by changing societal trends and the founder's expertise in this field, the aim is to create a place that offers close patient care with a special sense of warmth and attention, hence the concept... Be near, be around, be with. This approach provides long-term monthly care that feels like living at home, distinct from traditional hospitals.

Based on this concept, Ekachai Medical Hospital has launched KOON Palliative Care Specialized Hospital, the first specialized hospital in Thailand dedicated to palliative care, with an investment of 160 million baht on a 2-rai site, designed as a 5-story resort-style building. It offers 33 patient rooms for those requiring continuous monthly care, allowing patients to access services without needing to pay a deposit in advance. The hospital operates under Ekachai Nursing Home Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ekachai Hospital (EKH).

"The highlight of KOON Palliative Care Specialized Hospital is that it is a specialized facility with expertise in palliative care, a globally recognized treatment principle. We provide consultations and treatment planning in collaboration with family members to enhance the quality of life and happiness for all involved, using a holistic approach that addresses both physical and mental health for patients and their families simultaneously. This facility embodies a unique identity under the Biophilic Design concept, centering nature in its design, with warm, relaxing rooms that feel like home, unlike typical hospitals. Our medical staff and expert team care for both general and terminal patients, aiming to elevate the quality of medical care in Thailand to international standards," Dr. Amnat stated.
Palliative care is designed for patients with serious illnesses that significantly diminish their quality of life and lead to physical decline, reducing their remaining time. This includes conditions such as cancer, certain heart diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), end-stage kidney failure, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, end-stage liver cirrhosis, chronic muscle weakness diseases like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and more. We are prepared to care for terminal patients who frequently require hospital visits, ensuring the utmost comfort for both patients and families, including mental health follow-up for loved ones for a year after loss.
KOON Hospital has received the necessary licenses to operate and has been ready to serve since September 2022. The company is also studying and planning to expand its specialized hospital projects in the future to strengthen business growth.

Dr. Nittaya Uea-Aree-Mit, director of KOON Hospital, stated, "Our staff consists of doctors, nurses, patient assistants, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychotherapists, and many other specialists, with an exceptionally high staff-to-patient ratio for close and warm care. Our experienced team works together with a single goal: to maximize patient satisfaction in life as much as possible."
Additionally, all staff recognize the importance of deep listening and are committed to spending ample time talking and listening to both patients and families, as only attentive listening can foster understanding and guide the best possible recommendations for patients and their families.
