One Bangkok Partners with SCG to Transform Food Waste into Fertilizer: Latest Initiative for Sustainability
One Bangkok is a comprehensive real estate project with the highest quality standards and the largest in the heart of Bangkok. It continues its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by signing a memorandum of understanding with SCG to manage food waste using 13 high-efficiency food waste composters within the One Bangkok project. This initiative aims to convert food waste into fertilizer, promote resource efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.

Mr. Lim Hua Tieng, CEO of One Bangkok, stated, "We are committed to elevating the standards of real estate projects for a better and sustainable environment. The One Bangkok project, in collaboration with SCG, manages food waste using high-efficiency technology to process organic waste into fertilizer and soil amendment materials for planting trees within the project. The remaining compost will be distributed to public parks and surrounding communities. This not only benefits the community by introducing innovative solutions to Thailand but also aims to inspire local businesses and communities to work together towards a sustainable future."
Mr. Nithi Patrachok, Managing Director of SCG's Cement and Construction Products Business, said, "The circular economy principle is a key focus for SCG, aligning with SCG's ESG 4 Plus concept. We collaborate with the One Bangkok project on various aspects of the circular economy, such as reusing crushed pile caps in the production of precast concrete slabs and recycling leftover lightweight bricks from construction into large lightweight brick slabs, which has already been implemented. This time, SCG has procured high-efficiency food waste management machines recognized and used in leading locations worldwide. This technology can convert food waste into fertilizer quickly and efficiently, aiming for a zero-waste concept on construction sites and advancing the construction industry towards sustainable development in the future."

The high-efficiency food waste management machines used in this collaboration are recognized and utilized in leading locations worldwide, such as London Heathrow Airport in the UK, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, as well as the Burwood Brickworks shopping center of Frasers Property in Australia, and leading supermarkets in Europe. This technology can convert food waste into fertilizer rapidly, taking only 10 hours. The machine operates in a closed circuit system, preventing unpleasant odors from food waste during operation, which can reduce food waste by more than 80% and produce safe organic fertilizer and soil amendment materials that meet the standards of the Department of Agriculture.
Furthermore, the food waste disposal system at One Bangkok will be installed during the construction phase, which will generate food waste from thousands of construction workers, and will continue to be used throughout the operational phase of the project to achieve sustainability goals, which include:
- Reducing food waste by 780 kilograms per day or 243 tons per year during construction, and 12,236 kilograms per day or 4,466 tons per year during operation.
- Converting food waste into fertilizer at a rate of 156 kilograms per day or 49 tons per year during construction, and 2,447 kilograms per day or 893 tons per year when the project is operational.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 1.2 tons of carbon per day or 367 tons of carbon equivalent per year during construction, and 6,741 tons of carbon equivalent per year when the project is operational, equivalent to planting 40,815 trees during construction and 749,035 trees when the project is operational.

One Bangkok is the largest and most comprehensive real estate project located in the heart of Bangkok's business district, with an investment value of over 120 billion baht on a total area of 104 rai or 166,400 square meters on Witthayu Road and Rama 4 Road. Upon completion, the One Bangkok project will consist of five premium-grade A office buildings, four retail zones, five luxury and lifestyle hotels, and three luxury residential buildings, all designed with a focus on people, sustainability, and smart urban living. It aims to be the first project in Thailand to receive both LEED for Neighborhood Development Platinum certification for community development and WELL building certification for the health and well-being of residents and building users, setting a new standard for environmentally friendly sustainable development in Thailand. The first phase of the One Bangkok project is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2023.
