Sansiri and Bangchak Invite You to Transform 'Waste' into 'Energy' with Collection Points for 'Abandoned Waste' at Habito Mall, Continuing the Waste to Worth Project to Reduce Waste for a Sustainable World
- Sansiri collaborates with Bangchak to further their shared commitment to sustainability by organizing an event inviting residents and the public to convert 'abandoned waste' into 'electricity' under the Waste to Worth: Mobile Abandoned Waste project.
- 'Abandoned waste' refers to waste that cannot be recycled, has no resale value, and is not disposed of properly. According to the Pollution Control Department, over 85% of waste disposal sites, both public and private, are improperly managed, significantly impacting local communities and the environment, contributing to global warming.
- The event successfully collected over 1,460 kg of abandoned waste after mobilizing the Sansiri family, including residents, employees, and the public, to deliver abandoned waste at Habito Mall on May 21.
- Looking ahead, plans are in place to extend this initiative to other Sansiri communities, reinforcing their commitment to reducing waste and achieving a Net-Zero target, aiming to be Thailand's first real estate company to emit 'zero' greenhouse gases.
Mr. Ongart Suwannakul, Assistant Managing Director of Condominium Project Development at Sansiri Public Company Limited stated, "Sansiri prioritizes being a Global Citizen by conducting business alongside environmental and social responsibility. We believe that effective waste management can be achieved through the collective power and cooperation of all parties, including residents, employees, partners, and the community. This time, we partnered with Bangchak, an important ally in sustainability, to invite residents and the public to deliver abandoned waste from their homes. EN15 Technology Co., Ltd., an expert in waste management, collected the abandoned waste for processing, sorting, shredding, compressing, and converting it into alternative fuel for electricity generation. During the event on May 21, residents and the public brought in abandoned waste for three hours, allowing us to collect over 1,460 kg of waste to be transformed into electricity, according to EN15 Technology's data."
'Abandoned waste' is waste that cannot be recycled or is not worth the investment to recycle, often contaminated and unwanted by both the business sector and waste management entities, rendering it valueless and unmanageable. According to the latest data from the Pollution Control Department in 2019, there are 2,257 improperly managed community waste disposal sites in Thailand, accounting for 85% of the total 2,666 sites. Even with waste collection, improper disposal methods such as dumping, open burning, and incineration without air pollution control systems negatively impact local communities and the environment, leading to air pollution, leachate, foul odors, and becoming breeding grounds for diseases, as well as contributing to the global warming crisis.

Ms. Kloyta Na Thalang, Assistant Managing Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited said, "Our company is committed to developing sustainable business innovations alongside the environment and society, with a goal of achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Resource management is a high priority for us. In terms of waste management, we strictly adhere to legal regulations and continuously implement the BCG (Bio-Circular-Green Economy) policy to promote a circular economy in line with government policies and national agendas. We support proper waste management to reduce the social impact of waste disposal and minimize air pollution from landfills. Since late 2021, we have initiated abandoned waste collection points at Bangchak gas stations in Bangkok and surrounding areas in collaboration with EN15 Technology, which has received positive feedback. We have extended this partnership with Sansiri by establishing an abandoned waste collection point at Habito Mall on May 21, providing convenience for residents, employees, and the public wishing to dispose of abandoned waste. EN15 Technology processes the waste by shredding it into smaller pieces for use in factories as a substitute for coal in cement kilns, transforming it into another form of alternative energy. Although this is not yet the best waste management method due to incineration, it is done at high temperatures, effectively eliminating toxicity, and is controlled for pollution and exhaust treatment according to industrial standards before being released into the atmosphere, helping to reduce environmental impact, decrease waste sent to landfills that generate methane, and mitigate global warming."

“Given the excellent response to the Waste to Worth: Mobile Abandoned Waste project, we are ready to pursue our Net-Zero goals, aiming to be the first Thai real estate company to achieve 'zero' greenhouse gas emissions. We plan to continue this initiative across other Sansiri communities to mobilize the efforts of over 100,000 families to help reduce waste as much as possible,” concluded Mr. Ongart.
