The Finance Ministry assures citizens not to worry about late payment penalties for land and building taxes, advising them to wait for the billing notice from local authorities.

Mr. Lawaron Saengsanit, Director of the Fiscal Policy Office and spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, provided clarification regarding the collection and payment of land and building taxes for the tax year 2020, aiming to alleviate public concerns about incurring penalties and additional fees if they do not pay their land and building taxes by the end of August 2020. Key points include:

The collection and payment of land and building taxes must follow the legal procedures, which include sending a tax assessment notice to the property owners. Once the assessment is verified as correct, taxpayers can proceed to make the payment. Payments can be made through various channels; for Bangkok, payments can be made at bank counters or via the QR code on the online banking system at the bottom of the assessment notice, or at any of the 50 district offices. In other provinces, payments can be made at local government offices or through other specified channels.

However, if citizens do not receive the tax assessment notice, or if local authorities extend or postpone the payment deadline, they will not incur penalties or additional fees. Currently, several local authorities have already extended the tax payment deadline beyond the end of August 2020, and many others, including Bangkok, are considering further extensions.

The Finance Ministry spokesperson concluded by stating that citizens in Bangkok can follow updates on the tax payment deadline extension at the Revenue Division, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, phone number 02-221-2141 to 69, and for local government inquiries, they can contact the finance department of their respective municipalities or sub-district administrative organizations.
