Successful leaders in this chaotic era must harness their power from the Inside Out, or unleash the potential of humanity by leveraging human strengths that robots or AI cannot replicate. It starts with leading oneself effectively before leading teams and organizations.

In the past few months, as we have dealt with numerous problems and challenges, partly due to COVID-19, I couldn't help but ask...

- Why do individuals respond differently to the same events?

- What defines leadership?

- Who is a true leader?

- What distinguishes a Great Leader from an ordinary leader?

- Where does a leader's power come from?

Through conversations with various leaders, I discovered a common trait among Great Leaders: they lead from the Inside Out, built on a strong internal foundation that fosters confidence, stability, and energy to navigate difficulties and uncertainties by unleashing the "human potential" inherent in us since birth across four dimensions:

1. Mind: Vision to See the Unseen

Great Leaders often possess a vision and the ability to see what others cannot. They can look far and deep, recognizing needs, opportunities, and solutions, and connect the dots. They have a growth mindset, an open heart, and a thirst for learning new things, embodying lifelong learners. These qualities stem from the wisdom, knowledge, and experiences accumulated by each leader.

2. Body: Discipline to Live a Healthy Life

Every Great Leader I have encountered exhibits a higher level of discipline than the average person, starting with small habits like regular exercise to build a strong immune system and health. This high level of discipline indicates why they succeed in life and rise to lead others. In today's world, where the lines between work and personal life are blurred, disciplined individuals can manage their lives and time effectively, achieving a balanced lifestyle and continuous self-improvement, even as the world spins rapidly.

In addition to high discipline, Great Leaders also demonstrate perseverance, resilience, and a refusal to easily give up in the face of obstacles and hardships, continually investing in developing new skills to adapt to change.

3. Heart: Passion to Love and Care for Others

What sets humans apart from robots is our hearts and the ability to care for those around us. We have a love for our professions, a passion for our roles, and a commitment to our responsibilities.

As leaders today, no one may tell us what to do each day. Without passion for our responsibilities, we lack the energy to work. Especially in a time when we wake up to hear only negative news, we can only generate positive energy by tapping into our internal passion.

Moreover, leaders who genuinely care for their teams and those around them will earn trust and have an advantage in driving their organizations forward through crises.

Before we can inspire others, we must first ignite our own passion.

4. Spirit: Conscience to Make Contributions

Humans possess a spirit that instills a sense of responsibility for what is right and wrong, understanding what brings us peace of mind and pride in our humanity. How can we give gifts or leave a legacy to our organizations, those around us, or our world?

  • It's time to open the “Gift Box”

Every human has this hidden potential, akin to a “gift box” with four compartments that has been within us since birth. Unfortunately, not everyone can see or knows how to unleash this potential for benefit.

As we face challenges from the wave of technological revolution impacting human life both positively and negatively, competing for jobs and careers, questions arise: how can we compete with robots and technology? What are the strengths of being human?

My answer is that these four precious gifts we carry will help humanity compete with robots and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Leaders who succeed in this chaotic era must draw power from the Inside Out, which means unleashing human potential by utilizing strengths that robots or AI cannot replicate in these four dimensions. Being a Great Leader starts with effectively leading oneself before leading teams and organizations to success.

The faster the world changes and the more advanced technology becomes, the more humans must draw on their internal strengths to remain flexible, agile, and capable of handling uncertainties and new challenges with confidence.
