The "Revenue Department" is building on innovations from the #HACKATAX Thailand’s First Senior-level Hackathon to test in the Tax Sandbox, focusing on utilizing technology to improve tax services that meet public satisfaction, with real implementation expected in 2021.

Mrs. Sommai Siriudomsak, Strategic Tax Collection Advisor (Energy Business Group) and spokesperson for the Revenue Department, revealed that "the Tax Sandbox project aims to test innovations to enhance the efficiency of tax services, building on the #HACKATAX Thailand’s First Senior-level Hackathon held in 2019 under the concept of 'Real experts. Real solutions. Real impact.'"

Currently, the Revenue Department has opened opportunities for award-winning participants to test their works in the Tax Sandbox. The department will support necessary adjustments to rules, regulations, or guidelines as appropriate to promote the development of innovations that leverage technology to enhance tax services, ensuring they meet public needs and improve the country's competitiveness. Additionally, private sector entities wishing to test their projects related to the creation, delivery, and storage of electronic tax invoices on a blockchain network are also invited to participate in this testing.

The spokesperson further stated, "The Revenue Department has opened opportunities for the private sector to join the Tax Sandbox project to test innovations that utilize technology to enhance service efficiency from April 27 to June 5, 2020. A total of 5 projects were approved for testing."

The Tax Sandbox project is another initiative by the Revenue Department under the concept of 'customer-centricity,' with a testing period not exceeding 1 year and 6 months. The outcomes will yield innovations that meet taxpayers' needs, making 'taxation' easier for businesses, reducing costs, and streamlining tax processes, which will positively impact business operations and foster voluntary tax compliance. If there are updates from the testing of the Tax Sandbox by the five private sector participants, the Revenue Department will announce them accordingly.
