The Golden Pin Design Award for 2020, the most influential design award in the global Chinese-speaking market, is now accepting submissions. Designers from Thailand and around the world are invited to showcase their products and projects that have the potential to reach the largest Chinese-speaking market in the world. This prestigious award, which has a long history and is a symbol of globally recognized quality design, is organized by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) and the Industrial Development Bureau of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. It is open for entries from Thailand in two categories: Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA) and Golden Pin Concept Design Award (GPCDA). The first 100 entries submitted will be exempt from the registration fee.

The GPDA was established in 1981 and is held annually to honor outstanding product and project designs from teams of designers and industry professionals across four categories: product design, spatial design, communication design, and integrated design. The judging process is rigorous and fair, conducted by a panel of industry experts. Over the years, hundreds of entries have been awarded the Design Mark, a certification of design excellence.

Additionally, award-winning entries from the GPDA will have the opportunity to be sold on the Design Pin online store, showcased in an online exhibition on the GPDA website, and may be selected for display at the Taiwan Design Museum, the world's first museum dedicated to creative design for the Chinese community. They will also have access to consulting services and business matchmaking from experts across various fields to help innovate and successfully launch new products in the global market.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the global economy since early 2020, which may impact people's lives for years to come, the design industry is increasingly focusing on health, hygiene, and safety issues. This year, many entries from Taiwan and China are innovative products developed to address the pandemic, such as the Brinouva UV LED Sterilize Vacuum Robot, a vacuum cleaner with built-in sterilization, the YUOU, a portable UV sterilization device, and the Brinouva UV LED portable light clean, a portable device that combines UV sterilization and air purification.

In line with current global trends, the Golden Pin Design Award also uses the award ceremony as a platform to promote social responsibility and environmental sustainability. An annual special award has been introduced to encourage designers and large organizations to adopt design concepts that address the challenges the world is facing. This year, the Golden Pin Design Award remains committed to this mission and is open for design submissions that enhance the environment and sustainability from designers and companies worldwide.

The Golden Pin Design Award for 2020 is now open for submissions from around the world from today until July 9, 2020.

Entries that are commercially produced and available in the market can be submitted either by the manufacturer or the designer.

Golden Pin Concept Design Award

The Golden Pin Concept Design Award is a competition for works that have not yet been produced or sold in the market, with a total cash prize of 1.2 million New Taiwan Dollars for the winner. This year, a special annual award has been added for the first time, named the ConceptD Award, in collaboration with Acer Inc. to honor outstanding designers. The top two finalists will have the opportunity to compete for this special award. The judging panel consists of a carefully selected group of design experts from both the award organizers and Acer Inc., with criteria including innovation, commercial viability, presentation skills, technology use, and social and environmental value. The most outstanding entry will receive the grand prize, which is an Acer ConceptD product valued at 300,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 324,327 Baht), customized to meet the needs of the designer, developer, and creator of that work.

The Golden Pin Concept Design Award for 2020 is open for submissions of works that have not yet been produced or sold in the market, must not be commissioned works, and should not be fully developed by this year. Submissions are open from today until July 15, 2020, from students, designers, and companies, either individually or as a group.
