Bandid warns with 4 pieces of advice: Don't be reckless - Don't neglect calculations - Don't be careless - Don't step on others' toes. Have confidence in the banking system, regardless of the economy, banks must survive.
Mr. Bandid Lamsam, Chairman Emeritus of Kasikorn Bank, shared his thoughts with the media via Facebook Live today (April 8, 2020).
He recalled an audience with King Rama IX, who imparted wisdom about sufficiency, stating that one can do anything but must not let it fail; one should avoid extremes and be cautious, always prepared for challenges. This wisdom has resonated with him throughout the COVID-19 crisis, which has created a new storm causing global damage. Additionally, there are losses in resources and social unrest, hence the need for constant preparedness.
For banks, they have managed to recover from past damages, but now there are ongoing changes and risks. People desire profits, but due to the strong financial structure of the banking system, even with economic downturns and reduced profits, he believes that the banking system can endure through good planning and adequate reserves.
His personal interest lies in agriculture, and he has previously involved Kasikorn Bank, particularly in preserving the watershed forests in Nan province, which have suffered significant losses. Therefore, it is essential to address the issue by providing people with legally recognized land for cultivation while also preserving the forests. New knowledge is necessary to improve livelihoods, marking a new beginning in life after his tenure at Kasikorn Bank.
Having worked in banking for 40 years, he feels it is time to pass on the baton. He has confidence in the board and management at all levels, thus he hands over his responsibilities with peace of mind, feeling no worries and happiness. Today marks a comfortable conclusion to his previous role, but he will remain at the bank as he still needs to utilize various resources to assist with other ongoing projects.
