Sansiri the leader in lifestyle real estate in Thailand, has announced its investment plans in a global company. Recently, it has increased its stake in Standard International Holdings or SIH, the parent company of The Standard hotels, a renowned American hotel brand known for its discerning clientele, cutting-edge design, and exceptional service, raising its ownership to 59.02% from 37.26%.

This move reinforces confidence in growth and prepares the business for significant development, aiming to expand its hotel portfolio to 25 locations within five years, including four hotels in Thailand, such as Koh Samui, Phuket, Pattaya, and Hua Hin, as well as in Jakarta, Milan, Paris, Lisbon, Bordeaux, Mexico City, Chicago, Melbourne, and more.

Mr. Wanjak Buranasiri, Chief Financial Officer of Sansiri Public Company Limited  stated, “Since Sansiri first invested in Standard International in November 2017, we have continuously participated in developing business plans to prepare strategies that focus on global trends emphasizing tourism and lifestyle. We anticipate that the global hotel market will double in growth, with worldwide revenue increasing by 7.8% annually over the next five years. The Standard falls under the boutique and lifestyle hotel segment, which is the fastest-growing segment in the hotel industry. Therefore, the board of directors is confident and has approved the principle of acquiring a 21.76% investment in Standard International Holdings, LLC, valued at approximately $40.45 million. Following this transaction, Sansiri (US), Inc.'s stake in SIH will increase from 37.26% to 59.02%, making SIH a direct subsidiary of Sansiri (US), Inc. and an indirect subsidiary of the company by default.”

Less than two years after becoming a major shareholder, Standard International has announced plans to expand its business internationally by opening new hotels worldwide, aiming for 25 hotels within the next five years. The first hotel outside the United States opened in King's Cross, London, last July, followed by a location in the Maldives later this year (currently, The Standard is managing a completed hotel to continue renovations and rebranding before the official launch).

Mr. Amar Lalvani, CEO of Standard International said, “We are proud that Standard International has now become a truly international company with the launch of our first hotels in Europe and Asia. With the support and investment from Sansiri, we are ready to grow alongside the rapidly expanding international market, aiming for a total of 25 hotels within the next five years. Additionally, the Standard brand aligns with the changing consumer demands globally, focusing on spending for experiences rather than tangible goods. Currently, 60% of millennials worldwide are in Asia, which is why we plan to open over 90% of our hotels outside the United States, with approximately two-thirds in Asia.”

The Standard is more than just a hotel company; it aims to create profound experiences in design, art, music, fashion, food, and nightlife, all of which set it apart from other hotel brands by blending its unique identity with the culture and lifestyle of each neighborhood where the hotels are located.

In recent years, many boutique hotels have merged with larger companies, unlike The Standard, which maintains its distinct and independent lifestyle brand.

Mr. Lalvani further explained, “Most boutique hotels often struggle to expand, regardless of how good they are, due to business structures that prevent global scaling. However, The Standard has succeeded in doing so with Sansiri's investment, and now we are on the path to global success with a beloved brand, a strong investment base, a global business structure, and a comprehensive expansion plan.”

Wherever it is in the world, The Standard will become a hub of social and cultural transformation, creating jobs and improving the local economy, from Sunset Strip in Hollywood, the Meatpacking District in New York, King's Cross in London, and soon in Thailand.
