Ministry of Finance Begins Selling Unnecessary Shares; Next Up: Hospital and Real Estate Stocks
On July 2, 2019, reports from the Ministry of Finance indicated that the Ministry, along with Tundawan Company Limited, will proceed to sell common shares of Marble Company Limited held by both parties through a general auction method with price proposals. The schedule for submitting bids for the securities will be from July 1 to July 30, 2019.
To ensure that investors are widely informed about the securities sale and to foster competition in the securities auction, the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) has announced the sale of common shares of Marble Company Limited through a general auction method with price proposals from July 1 to July 30, 2019. Additional related information can be downloaded from www.thaimarble.co.th.
The sale of Marble Company Limited is part of a project to divest securities that the Ministry of Finance no longer needs to hold. Previously, the Cabinet approved the sale of securities from 24 companies, acquired through legal incidents or asset seizures, which include businesses in the hospital and real estate sectors, as well as shares from four companies in the Davis group.
SEPO anticipates that the shares will start being sold within this year. Among the 24 companies, 20 have low valuations, while the remaining four require financial status verification due to their higher values, necessitating an assessment of their true market prices.
Currently, the Ministry of Finance holds a total of 116 securities, comprising 88 private securities, of which 33 are in the process of liquidation, and 23 are shares in state enterprises, along with shares in various mutual funds. According to principles, each category of securities must be reviewed, which includes securities that the Ministry must hold, those acquired through legal incidents or asset seizures, securities that are no longer necessary to hold according to government policy, and securities in industries that are well-managed by the private sector. All must be considered separately as listed and unlisted companies in the stock market.
