Tax Department Recommends Online Filing with PromptPay for Faster Tax Refunds
January 4, 2019 - Mr. Pinsai Suraswadi, acting advisor on tax collection strategy and spokesperson for the Revenue Department, announced that the department has begun sending information regarding personal income tax refunds for the 2018 tax year to banks. This applies to individuals who file their personal income tax returns (Form P.N.D. 90 and P.N.D. 91) electronically, whether through the Revenue Department's website www.rd.go.th or the RD Smart Tax Application, and wish to request a tax refund. If their returns are not subject to pre-refund verification, and if taxpayers have registered for PromptPay using their ID number, the bank will deposit the tax refund into the account registered by the taxpayer on the next business day.
According to statistics from the 2017 tax filing and refund requests, it was found that the majority of refund applicants linked their bank accounts with their ID numbers to receive money via the PromptPay transfer system, exceeding 70% (as of June 30, 2018). The improvement of the process for refunding personal income tax into bank accounts through the PromptPay transfer system aims to facilitate taxpayers, reduce the burden of traveling to banks to deposit checks, eliminate the need to wait for tax refund checks by mail, and address issues related to undelivered or lost tax refund checks. Additionally, it helps reduce the costs associated with printing and mailing checks, which is a cost to the country.
“The Revenue Department encourages taxpayers to file their personal income tax returns (Form P.N.D. 90 and P.N.D. 91) electronically and register for PromptPay using their ID numbers, ensuring that taxpayers receive their refunds accurately, conveniently, and quickly,” Mr. Pinsai stated.
However, to facilitate the refund process for those who have not registered for PromptPay with their ID numbers, the Revenue Department provides an alternative method for receiving tax refunds. Refund applicants can bring the tax refund notification letter sent by the department via mail, along with their ID card and/or documents proving their eligibility for the tax refund, to the bank within the date specified in the letter. Taxpayers will also receive their refunds accurately, conveniently, and quickly. For any inquiries, individuals can contact Revenue Offices nationwide or the Revenue Information Center at 1161.
