National Economic and Social Development Board Projects 4.2% GDP Growth for 2018
The National Economic and Social Development Board reports a 3.3% GDP growth in Q3 2018, a slowdown from the previous quarter, impacted by exports. The full-year growth is projected at 4.2%, while 2019 is expected to grow between 3.5% and 4.5%.
November 19, 2018 - Mr. Tosaporn Sirisamphan, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), revealed that Thailand's economy expanded by 3.3% in Q3 2018, lower than market expectations and a decline from the previous quarter's growth of 4.6%, influenced by external demand, while domestic demand continues to improve.
However, the GDP growth forecast for the entire year of 2018 has been adjusted to 4.2%, which is at the lower end of the previous estimate of 4.2-4.7%, due to expectations that total exports will grow by only 7.2%, down from an earlier forecast of 10%. Imports are expected to grow by 16.2%, revised from the previous estimate of 15.4%.
For 2019, GDP is projected to grow within the range of 3.5-4.5%, with exports expected to expand by 4.6% and imports by approximately 6.5%.
