December 6, 2017, Bangkok — Major Development Public Company Limited (MJD) (MJD) is a luxury real estate developer in Thailand, led by Dr. Suriyah Poovornlak, Managing Director, along with executives and employee representatives, who brought joy to over 400 stray dogs in the 'Dog Island' area of Phutthamonthon Park, Nakhon Pathom. They collaborated with volunteer veterinarians, alumni from Chulalongkorn University, to administer vaccinations against six diseases for the dogs. Additionally, they donated dog food and repaired the shelter buildings for the dogs, with a total value exceeding 250,000 baht, to enhance the quality of life and health of the dogs.

'Dog Island' is a refuge for homeless and abandoned dogs, currently housing over 400 dogs on a 3-rai area located at the innermost part of Phutthamonthon Park, Nakhon Pathom. The establishment of Dog Island arose because many owners frequently abandoned their dogs in the park, leading to a rapid increase in the number of stray dogs throughout the area. Thus, Dog Island was created to care for homeless dogs, providing them with better living conditions, food, clean and shaded areas for shelter, and medical treatment.

Major Development Public Company Limited, a real estate developer with a Pet-friendly and wellness concept, understands the needs and bonds of pet owners, allowing them to keep their pets in all projects. They aim to be part of a community that enhances the quality of life for dogs. In the past, they have continuously engaged in activities related to dogs and cats. This time, they partnered with a team of volunteer veterinarians to vaccinate over 400 dogs in the Dog Island area against six diseases, including distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis, kennel cough, and rabies.

“I am a dog lover and currently have five dogs: Black Tea, Ovaltine, Coke, Pepsi, and Coffee. All of them were once strays that I found on the street and felt sorry for, so I brought them home. From this love, I want everyone who loves animals and wishes to care for them to have the opportunity to nurture and maintain the bond between owners and pets, which has become the concept of Pet-friendly and wellness in all Major Development projects. We are the first real estate developer to emphasize this,” said Dr. Suriyah Poovornlak.

This activity not only involved collaborating with volunteer veterinarians to vaccinate every dog under the care of 'Dog Island' but also included providing dog food to enhance their nutrition for a healthy diet. Furthermore, they allocated a budget for constructing permanent shelters for the current 400 dogs and to accommodate the anticipated increase in abandoned dogs in the future, ensuring good hygiene, safety, and a spacious, comfortable environment that will positively impact the mental and physical health of the dogs.
