World-Class Innovative Paints: Nippon Paint Joins CECI Network to Drive Circular Economy and Elevate the Construction Industry
Nippon Paint, a global leader in innovative paints and sustainable solutions from Japan, has joined the CECI (Circular Economy in Construction Industry) network, which is a collaborative network of leading real estate and construction businesses in Thailand. The vision of this network is to elevate the construction industry towards sustainable development by applying circular economy principles and enhancing resource efficiency to create a better quality of life and social returns through its 5 missions: 1. Build understanding of circular economy principles in the construction industry, 2. Expand collaboration networks from upstream to downstream, 3. Promote sustainable resource use throughout the value chain, 4. Establish standards and management systems for construction based on circular economy principles, and 5. Develop suitable innovations and technologies by applying sustainable design concepts such as Smart Design and Green & Clean Innovation. This participation in CECI reflects Nippon Paint's recognized role in driving sustainability and developing innovative paints that enhance environmental standards in the construction industry.

Mr. Watchara Sirithichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coating (Thailand) Ltd., represented the company at the signing ceremony of the CECI Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which currently comprises 42 member organizations, including property developers, architects, consultants, construction material manufacturers, contractors, and waste management experts. Nippon Paint's participation this year marks a significant step for the network as it is one of the paint manufacturers invited to play a role in promoting circular economy practices alongside various sectors of the construction industry. Over the years, Nippon Paint has continuously developed tools, standards, and sustainable environmental innovations to assist project owners, designers, and stakeholders in the construction industry in making decisions based on clear and verifiable sustainability data.

One of the key achievements is receiving international EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification for 35 product lines, which discloses environmental impact data throughout the product life cycle according to international standards. Additionally, the company has developed a Carbon Calculator under the name “https://professional.nipponpaintdecor.com/carbon-calculator” to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from projects within Nippon Paint's building paint product range, enabling project developers to assess and manage carbon impacts more effectively.
In terms of product development, Nippon Paint is also promoting the concept of “Nippon Paint Green Choice,” or innovative paint products aimed at sustainability for people, housing, and the planet, to enhance standards for air quality, safety, environmentally friendly materials, innovations that reduce environmental impact, and sustainable production throughout the value chain. This initiative is divided into four main dimensions:
- GREEN AIR – Creating paint products for clean air quality that are safe for breathing, such as the Zero VOCs interior paint innovation, which is free from harmful volatile substances, like Nippon Paint Air Care.
- GREEN MATERIALS – Using materials that are safe for both living beings and the environment, with 35 of Nippon Paint's products certified with the EPD International label.
- GREEN INNOVATION - Focusing on creating paint solutions that balance safety, durability, energy efficiency, and sustainability, with Nippon Paint products receiving the CFP-CFR carbon label from the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization).
- GREEN MANUFACTURING – Managing sustainability in every step of the production process, with Nippon Paint being the only paint brand in Thailand to receive the highest Climate Action Excellence award from the Federation of Thai Industries.

This commitment has led Nippon Paint to receive various environmental certifications and awards, such as the EPD International label, the CFP-CFR carbon label, and the Climate Action Excellence award, reflecting comprehensive sustainability efforts from product development to production processes, positively impacting society at large.
“We are truly honored to be part of the CECI network,” Mr. Watchara stated. “Nippon Paint is ready to bring our knowledge, tools, and real sustainability experiences to collaborate with network members to create tangible outcomes at the industry level, whether it be reducing greenhouse gas emissions, using resources efficiently, or developing new solutions that support the circular economy concept.”
In addition to joining as a member, Mr. Watchara was also honored to share his vision for sustainability at the CECI Steering Committee #1/2026 to exchange ideas on developing paint innovations and environmental solutions with network members.
Under CECI's operational plan for 2026, which aims to build on sharing best practices towards developing collaborative projects and new innovations, Nippon Paint is ready to support operations in all dimensions, including participating in various pilot projects to drive the Thai construction industry towards a tangible and sustainable circular economy.
