"Nippon Paint" The Only Superior Paint Brand Wins the Highest Honor "Climate Action Excellence" by the Federation of Thai Industries, Proving Commitment to Sustainability Leadership in All Dimensions
"Nippon Paint" has received the national sustainability award on the stage of the "Climate Action Awards 2025" organized by the Climate Change Institute (CCI) under the Federation of Thai Industries. It is the "only innovative paint brand" in the domestic paint manufacturing industry to receive the "Climate Action Excellence" award at the highest level, which is granted only to organizations rated as "excellent" that demonstrate comprehensive sustainability efforts with outstanding practical implementations that positively impact society, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and benefit the climate. Nippon Paint has tangibly reflected these results through its policies and adherence to the "Sustainability Framework" across all 5 pillars of the brand, which encompass environment and safety, people and society, innovation and product responsibility, governance, and sustainable procurement to create a sustainable future together while keeping the users and stakeholders at the heart of its operations.

The "Climate Action Awards 2025" aims to honor and support organizations that take concrete actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand results to society, with a commitment to drive policies towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The awards are divided into 4 levels based on the scores received, with the highest level being "Climate Action Excellence". This year, a total of 22 leading companies received the award, including PTT Public Company Limited, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, SCG Logistics Company Limited, and Charoen Pokphand Group Company Limited, among others.

Mr. Watchara Sirithichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coating (Thailand) Ltd., as a representative of the organization's collaborative spirit, accepted the prestigious award on the stage of the "Climate Action Awards 2025" given to "Nippon Paint", the largest innovative paint manufacturer and distributor in Asia and the fourth largest in the world. "Nippon Paint" is recognized as the "only innovative paint brand" to receive the award at the "highest level", which is "Climate Action Excellence", awarded to organizations that score more than 90 points out of 100.

"Nippon Paint is one of the organizations in the paint and construction industry, which overall tends to release high amounts of carbon and is involved with chemicals. Therefore, we recognize the role and importance of organizations to be part of the supply chain to create new concrete operational standards that help reduce environmental impacts, resources, climate change, and the health of people on Earth while still allowing the organization to grow sustainably. This vision and commitment have led Nippon Paint to establish a framework called 'Sustainability Framework' that we have been dedicated to for a long time, guiding the organization, whether executives or employees at all levels, to see the goals and direction of sustainability together and work collaboratively according to the strategies laid out to achieve real results with positive impacts on society, communities, and the environment," Mr. Watchara stated.
As for Nippon Paint's Sustainability Framework, it is a global policy initiated by the parent company, NIPSEA Group, which has been implemented in various countries worldwide where Nippon Paint has manufacturing bases, including Thailand. Each country adapts the guidelines to suit their specific context. The Sustainability Framework is planned to align with 10 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), distilled into 5 sustainability pillars of Nippon Paint: environment and safety, people and society, innovation and product responsibility, governance, and sustainable procurement.

Transforming 31% of electricity in production plants to "clean energy"
For the first pillar of environment and safety, Nippon Paint has established strategies related to energy reduction, greenhouse gas emission reduction, water conservation, waste management, and the safety and well-being of employees. Practical implementations include installing solar roofs on paint production facilities, which can generate over 1 million kWh of electricity. This clean energy can replace 31% of the electricity used in the factory, replacing 67% of forklifts in the factory with electric-powered vehicles to reduce emissions from combustion vehicles, recycling and treating water for reuse, with over 4.12 million liters treated for reuse. Another significant highlight is that Nippon Paint's factory has installed a Dust Collector, a large innovative machine for capturing dust during production to prevent dust from escaping as air pollution, reducing health impacts on employees and nearby communities, successfully capturing 6.51 tons of dust.
Regarding the second pillar of people and community, this strategy involves training, developing, and supporting employees to participate in sustainability activities, as well as creating benefits for surrounding communities. Nippon Paint continuously works on this aspect, improving and repainting community areas such as schools, government offices, and flood-affected communities, enhancing the quality of life and livability for over 370,000 square meters, impacting over 3 million people with a value of paint exceeding 11.5 million baht.
Relentlessly innovating for the world
For the third pillar of innovation and product stewardship, this is another core aspect of Nippon Paint, as the brand continuously innovates and develops products to promote sustainability, which will have a lasting impact throughout the construction industry's supply chain.
Currently, Nippon Paint's paint products include up to 40 products certified with the carbon footprint label (CFP), allowing project owners or users to calculate and choose products that emit low carbon and greenhouse gases. Additionally, Nippon Paint consistently develops innovative sustainable paints, with the latest being the cutting-edge "Nippon Paint Nature Care", a premium-grade interior paint made from the highest quality natural latex, replacing fossil fuel-derived components to reduce carbon emissions. Another example is Nippon Paint Ultra Guard, an ultra-premium exterior paint protection film that offers durability exceeding standards set by the Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) by 7 times, guaranteed for 20 years with a maximum color fading warranty of 7 years, the first in the Thai paint market, thus reducing the frequency of repainting, saving costs by up to 13%, and helping to reduce carbon emissions by no less than 34%. These innovative paint products are just examples to provide users with options to collectively reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
Next is the fourth pillar of governance, which involves organizational management to ensure the implementation of the Sustainability Framework is real, continuous, and coordinated smoothly. Therefore, Nippon Paint has established a committee within the organization to support comprehensive sustainability management from the executive level to all employees, ensuring understanding and active participation.
Engaging the supply chain in the journey towards sustainability
The final pillar, equally important, is the fifth pillar of sustainable procurement, which involves selecting and evaluating suppliers to ensure sustainability throughout the production supply chain. For example, Nippon Paint has adjusted its packaging to use paint cans made with 26% recycled plastic of the total packaging volume to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from using new plastic. Additionally, some raw materials in the production line have been adjusted to use reusable packaging types, thus reducing production waste by up to 800 tons and contributing to reducing landfill waste, a significant environmental issue worldwide.
"Nippon Paint is extremely proud that CCI under the Federation of Thai Industries recognizes our genuine commitment and intensive operations in sustainability across all dimensions of the organization. Nippon Paint is dedicated to developing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, care for the environment, employees, partners, and communities continuously, with plans and goals for the future by 2030 to further reduce emissions or usage in various areas for the environment, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing electricity consumption, reducing water usage in non-production activities, reducing waste volumes, and implementing a Zero Accident policy to ensure no severe accidents that halt work within production facilities. Nippon Paint hopes to maintain its leadership in sustainability that helps expand results to society widely, as intended by the Climate Action Awards this time," Mr. Watchara concluded.
