4 Tourist Cities in Thailand Ranked in the Top 10 Winter Sun Destinations Worldwide
A new study by Travelbag reveals that Thailand ranks among the top destinations for escaping the cold weather to bask in the sun this year, with Bangkok taking the number one spot in the world.
Bangkok: The Champion of Winter Sun Cities
Bangkok, the vibrant capital city, has been recognized as the best winter sun destination, boasting an average temperature of 27.5°C and enjoying up to 9 hours of sunshine per day with almost no rainfall. This allows tourists to enjoy major festivals such as the Lantern Festival in November or relax in lush parks like Lumpini Park.
Bangkok is also often chosen as the starting point for trips to various cities in Thailand, whether paired with Chiang Mai, known for its temples and nature, Phuket, famous for its sandy beaches, or Krabi, a tranquil coastal town, to create the perfect winter getaway.

Krabi – Beautiful and Serene Seas
Krabi ranks third in the world, with an average temperature of 27.8°C during winter (October to January according to the UK winter) and only 15 mm of rainfall, making it ideal for those who enjoy quiet beaches, clear waters, and pristine nature.
Phuket – The Island That Never Sleeps
Phuket comes in fourth with an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day. Despite an average rainfall of 40 mm in winter, it remains a popular destination with its golden sandy beaches, vibrant nightlife, and relaxed island atmosphere. A highlight during this time is the sea turtle nesting season from November to February, adding to the island's natural charm.
Chiang Mai – Culture and Adventure
Chiang Mai rounds out Thailand's presence in the Top 10 with an average temperature of 28°C and nearly 9 hours of sunshine per day. This city is filled with ancient temples, lush forests, and lively night markets, making it perfect for both cultural immersion and adventure activities.
