Kasikornbank has partnered with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM), and Visa to enhance urban living by making travel easier, more convenient, faster, and safer. This collaboration connects the public transport payment system to the Kasikornbank Visa debit card, allowing users to tap and pay for MRT fares across all lines without the need to top up their cards. It also covers payments for other public transport systems, including the Airport Rail Link, expressways, and buses operated by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), and can even be used for payments at gas stations. The goal is to see a continuous increase in spending through the Kasikornbank debit card in the public transport category, particularly with a projected growth of over 9 times for tap payments at MRT stations.

Dr. Kesachai Skawaratnanont, Executive Vice President of Kasikornbank, stated that this collaboration aims to address the needs of urban customers who travel frequently, providing them with greater convenience and speed without the hassle of topping up or carrying cash and multiple cards. With just one Kasikornbank Visa debit card, users can tap to pay for public transport fares across all MRT lines, including the Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Pink lines, as well as the Airport Rail Link, expressways, and BMTA buses. The EMV Contactless technology ensures customers' payment security.

Dr. Kesachai further noted that while Thai consumer behavior is shifting towards mobile banking, the trend of using debit cards for tap payments is on the rise, especially for daily expenses such as public transport, gas stations, shopping malls, and restaurants. According to Kasikorn Research Center, the majority of card payments made by Thais are through debit cards, accounting for approximately 62% of the total value of plastic card payments. Currently, the Kasikornbank debit card holds over 50% market share in terms of spending value, and the integration of the public transport payment system is expected to further boost spending in this category, particularly for tap payments at MRT stations, which are anticipated to grow over 9 times.

Ms. Naporn Ingtanunwat, Senior Marketing Director at Visa Thailand, expressed her delight in collaborating with Kasikornbank, MRTA, and BEM to develop a payment system that enhances the daily commuting experience for urban residents. The ability to tap and pay using the Kasikornbank Visa debit card on public transport not only increases convenience and safety but also reflects Visa's role as a leader in digital payments, committed to supporting the country's payment infrastructure and promoting a cashless society.
