National Housing Authority Launches Knowledge Exchange Forum Aiming to Develop Low-Carbon Housing for Low-Income Earners
The National Housing Authority organized a seminar to disseminate research findings on the "Low-Carbon Housing and Community Development Project." Mr. Thaveepong Vichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority, assigned Mr. Mongkol Janthasee, Deputy Governor, to chair the seminar. The event featured presentations from Associate Professor Dr. Chuwit Suchachai, researchers from the Arts and Crafts Institute, including Mr. Pawarut Khamphuenphol and Mr. Patiharn Jamnongkam, as well as Mr. Burin Chotichairin, who discussed the feasibility study for developing low-carbon community housing. Experts from the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), real estate development companies, and community plastic recycling specialists also participated in the seminar, which took place on July 18, 2025, at the Baan Thai Boutique Hotel, Ramkhamhaeng 47, Bangkok.
Mr. Thaveepong Vichaidit, the Governor, revealed that the National Housing Authority held the seminar to share research findings on the "Study and Design Project for an Application System to Promote Occupations and Generate Income for Residents in National Housing Communities." Experts from the institute participated in discussions on the feasibility of developing low-carbon community housing to create environmentally friendly housing for low-income earners. The development approach will establish standards for construction materials and link construction material databases, as well as study and analyze the carbon reduction resulting from the low-carbon housing project within low-income communities. Importantly, there will be a feasibility study on utilizing carbon credits from housing development to create investment pathways for further housing development for low-income earners.
The project has studied eco-friendly construction materials and eco-friendly homes, which will serve as a model for establishing housing and community standards aimed at becoming low-carbon communities. This will enhance knowledge and allow research findings to be practically applied in various community areas, helping to create economic value and integrating innovation, technology, and environmental considerations to improve the quality of life in communities. This aligns with the National Housing Authority's mission to develop housing while enhancing the quality of life for citizens, focusing on creating opportunities for all target groups to access quality housing, standards, and promoting community sustainability, under the vision of "Building Homes, Creating Happiness for a Better Quality of Life."
Mr. Thaveepong stated that this project marks an important starting point for transitioning housing development from traditional models to more sustainable living, particularly for low-income groups, who will benefit from standard housing while also reducing energy costs.
"This research reflects the proactive and committed work of the National Housing Authority in addressing social issues across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, which will build public confidence that the National Housing Authority will develop standard housing," the Governor concluded.
