SCG HOME Experience has partnered with Thai Health Promotion Foundation (TSHF) and CDC to select 12 finalists in the ‘SCG HOME Experience Design Contest 2024’ aimed at finding the best house designs that sustainably meet the living needs of seniors, promoting healthy living for all ages within the same home. This initiative aims to translate house designs into real living spaces, supporting Thai home design towards sustainability with professionalism.

In the student category, Mr. Asshi Thetkorn and Mr. Phonlathip Thongphrasalai from the team Billy and Tommy from King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok won the first prize.
In the professional architect – freelance category, there was only a first runner-up prize awarded to Mr. Anan Luangphon.

Thanyakwin Buddimee, Managing Director of SCG Experience Co., Ltd., revealed that the ‘SCG HOME Experience Design Contest 2024’ has opened applications for new designers among students and professional architects, both individual and group categories. The contest received significant interest, with many submissions. All house designs were presented under the concept of sustainable living for the elderly, focusing on Care Design principles to understand appropriate design principles and materials for seniors. A panel of experts from SCG HOME Experience, TSHF, Crystal Design Center, and Integrated Field selected only 12 works that met the criteria to present in the final round of the contest, competing for a total prize of over 150,000 baht.

In the final round, the 12 finalists will present their house designs according to the given criteria, elaborating on their work in detail. The judges will focus on design criteria, creativity in design based on ‘UD Design & Sustainable Living Design’ principles, the selection of SCG HOME Experience and Crystal Design Center products that meet the criteria and are interesting, and whether the designs can be developed into standard construction plans that can be practically used within the specified budget while maintaining aesthetic appeal and effectively utilizing available space.

“We not only prioritize homeowners, architects, and designers, but we also value architecture students by promoting new-generation architecture students to apply what they have learned to develop real work. This creates income while they are still students, helping them grow in their careers through showcasing their work in this contest. By focusing on the Sustainable Living criteria, we design to suit the elderly and other family members to ensure safety in using home spaces, which can be practically applied. These works are ready to provide ideas and knowledge to the general public who wish to improve their living spaces for safety and health,” said Mr. Thanyakwin.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chumkhet Sawangjaroen from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Thammasat University, representing TSHF, stated that the contest's house design criteria, which emphasize sustainable and healthy living, align with the trend of an aging population, leading to a better community for cohabitation. This is consistent with TSHF's vision to create lifestyles, societies, and environments that support good health. Therefore, TSHF supports the ‘SCG HOME Experience Design Contest 2024’, believing that thoughtfully designed houses that meet the contest's objectives will lead to homes that enhance both physical and mental health, improving the living conditions of Thai people of all ages.

Napaporn Thongphool, Director of Sales & Product - Crystal Home from Crystal Design Center, stated that CDC is Thailand's first comprehensive furniture and home decor design center. We recognize and prioritize design aspects related to homes, especially the SCG HOME Experience house design contest, now in its second year. The company has supported the venue for the final contest to showcase and present works amidst the design atmosphere of CDC and is ready to participate as a judging panel in this project. CDC has always been a good partner in supporting SCG HOME Experience activities and emphasizes home design to meet customer needs, as well as creating CDC as a hub for experts in comprehensive home services.
