9 Identities of Pride: Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel Ready to Showcase to the World
Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel has been a place of memories and impressions since 1970. This name reflects a beautiful historical narrative, welcoming tourists and dignitaries from Thailand and around the world with warm and generous Thai hospitality. It is also a venue that has recorded numerous works of art, architecture, and painting from the past to the present. When discussing the valuable identity of Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel, many beautiful stories are embedded in various parts of the hotel, both inside and out. These identities will be conveyed once again to impress both Thais and visitors from around the globe this September at Dusit Thani Bangkok at Dusit Central Park.
Ms. Suphajee Sutheewong, CEO of Dusit Thani Public Company Limited, stated, "With the intention and dedication of Lady Chanat Piyaoui, the founder of Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel, who aimed to elevate the hotel and tourism business in Thailand, she not only created a hotel that stands out and reflects the beauty of Bangkok but also presented various aspects of Thai identity to the world. From then until now, even after more than half a century, Dusit Thani Bangkok remains one of the top hotels that beautifully preserves and carries on the art of Thai culture. Our important mission today, besides creating a new contemporary Dusit Thani Bangkok, is to pass on these valuable architectural and artistic legacies to preserve them as a cultural heritage for future generations and to provide emotional value to our customers and guests who have a deep connection with Dusit Thani Bangkok for many years to come."
This is the main reason why, during the period we closed the hotel in 2019, we invited a group of esteemed professors and teams from Silpakorn University to document various valuable parts that should be preserved, resulting in numerous works. We would like to highlight 9 outstanding identities that best represent Dusit Thani. These include the Golden Spire, Golden Façade, Library 1918, Trees from Original Dusit Thani Bangkok, Signature Cascading Waterfall, Signature Lobby’s Ceiling, Decorative Lobby’s Screens, Benjarong Pillars, and Heritage Suite. These elements will once again create a memorable experience for Thais and visitors from around the world at Dusit Thani Bangkok at Dusit Central Park.
1. Golden Spire: A Symbol of Memory
The golden spire atop the building was first designed over 50 years ago by Japanese architect Mr. Yozo Shibata, head architect from Kanko Kikaku Sekkeisha (KKS). The design was inspired by the spire of Wat Arun Ratchawararam, becoming an important identity that everyone recognizes as Dusit Thani. With the commitment to align this identity with the changing times while maintaining its beauty and appeal to both Thais and people worldwide, we have created a new spire that is transparent, allowing the original golden spire to be clearly visible inside, with a more contemporary beauty and larger size to balance with the new 39-story hotel building, serving as a connection point of eras while preserving a long-standing heritage. This will become a viewpoint, a check-in spot, and a symbol of Bangkok as it once was.

2. Golden Façade: A Fortunate Architectural Frame
Not only is it aesthetically pleasing in the style of Thai architecture, but many parts of Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel also incorporate meanings and auspicious elements, especially the front of the building or the Golden Façade, which was created through symmetrical placement according to feng shui principles to enhance fortune. Inspired by the original golden façade but redesigned to be more contemporary, this façade will serve as a golden photography frame for guests taking pictures from their rooms, offering a panoramic view of Lumpini Park, creating special moments that will remind them of their stay at Dusit Thani Bangkok.

3. Library 1918: A Tribute to King Rama VI
Before becoming the library, this room was an Italian restaurant and a tea party venue held in memory of King Rama VI. After being converted into a meeting room, it was designed with elegant wood carving craftsmanship adorned with royal portraits and items from the reign of King VI, honoring him as the creator of the Dusit Thani model city to experiment with democratic governance in 1918. This room has been used for small events such as traditional Thai engagement ceremonies and private receptions for royalty and prominent figures from both Thailand and abroad.

4. Trees from Original Dusit Thani Bangkok: The First Tree Planted by Lady Chanat Piyaoui
The return of the tropical garden reflects the standard of care from the source to the end, emphasizing the importance of green spaces and creating a peaceful area for residents. The project has preserved the plumeria tree that Lady Chanat planted near the waterfall, which was moved to a nursery during construction. When Dusit Thani Bangkok reopens, this tree of memory will be replanted within the project. Another intention of Mr. Chaninthorn Thonwanit is to develop the land alongside urban and community development, so we designed the project to include a Roof Park or an additional 7 rai of green space, making part of it a public area accessible to everyone for relaxation and recreation.

5. Signature Cascading Waterfall: The Heavenly Waterfall of Dusit
One of the signatures of Dusit Thani Bangkok is the 9-tier waterfall that creates tranquility and welcomes tourists and guests. The waterfall is divided into 3 upper tiers representing the three worlds and 6 lower tiers representing the six heavens. When combined, these numbers form 9, a lucky number that Lady Chanat Piyaoui, the founder of the hotel, valued. The waterfall will be surrounded by various flowers, and in this new return, the "Heavenly Waterfall of Dusit" will bring even more lushness and freshness to residents in a larger and more complete area.

6. Signature Lobby’s Ceiling: A Golden Radiant Ceiling
The design of the coffered ceiling in the lobby of the new Dusit Thani Bangkok will creatively blend modernity with the original ceiling shape of the hotel. The design features a golden stepped ceiling that continues from the drop-off area outside into the lobby, combined with perfectly designed lighting to create a dimension of beauty. All of this will enhance the identity of the area for welcoming important guests and create memorable impressions every time they visit.

7. Decorative Lobby’s Screens: True Thai Identity
The curves inspired by “Sinthao,” traditional Thai mural art, have been transformed into cloud-like shapes to convey the concept of heaven linked to the meaning of the name “Dusit,” reflecting elegance that captivates every visitor. The artwork within draws inspiration from the beauty of the ceiling structure and the pillars that are distinctive to the original Dusit Thani Bangkok, representing beautifully decorated architecture in contemporary Thai culture, designed from the lotus pond paintings of “Khrua In Khong,” a renowned Thai artist recognized during 1850-1860. This reflects the meaning of the lotus flower, a symbol of worship and the goodness of Buddhism, as the lotus rises to the light and warmth, symbolizing enlightenment. With the design concept stemming from the growth of the lotus, this design conveys the imagination of walking beneath a lotus pond.

8. Benjarong Pillars: A Masterpiece Crafted with Care
Another significant element that has been part of Dusit Thani Bangkok for over 50 years is the Benjarong pillars, two large pillars weighing over 10 tons. These are artistic works preserved to reflect the identity of Dusit Thani. They have been reintroduced as an identity to reconnect with history. The intricate designs of the pillars feature exquisite Thai paintings, considered a masterpiece by "Than Kood," Master Paiboon Suwanakood, a first-generation student of Master Silpa Bhirasri, who spent time researching and interpreting the meanings from the murals of Wat Pho, including the use of colors and patterns before painting. This work invites visitors to fully experience traditional Thai culture, as the project is committed to preserving the values of traditional Thai identity.

9. Heritage Suites: A Complete Integration of Thai Identity
From the past to the present, the suites at Dusit Thani Bangkok are a true model of Thai identity that captivates both Thais and foreigners from the moment they check in. They feature unique designs and meticulously crafted decorations that incorporate Thai culture and lifestyle in the style of Dusit Thani, such as the use of traditional Thai patterns and wooden wall panels in the room. The headboard area pays attention to detail with hand-stitched patterns symbolizing heaven, and the choice of furniture with soft, curved shapes typical of Thai design enhances the contemporary feel of the room.
