Sansiri Aims to Create Equality: Celebrating Pride Month with "We Are Equal, I Am You" Embracing Diversity

Mr. Samatcha Promsirirak, Chief of Staff of Sansiri Public Company Limited, stated that June each year symbolizes support for diversity and gender equality. We are pleased and proud to be one of the organizations contributing to driving equality in both the organization and society.

This initiative stems from accepting differences (Live Equally). Sansiri is the first company in Thailand and one of 200 leading companies worldwide to sign the UN Global Standards of Conduct for Business, established by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to support equality in society and reduce discrimination.

Recently, we contributed useful information and additional suggestions from the perspective of those who initiated promoting equality within the organization, collaborating with a team to develop the Inclusion Toolkit for Organizations and Business, developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Canadian Embassy in Thailand, the Sasin School of Management at Chulalongkorn University, and Workplace Pride.

Sansiri will begin comparing this toolkit with various measures we have already implemented and will improve or expand upon them. We will also initiate collaboration with our partners to understand and seek cooperation in supporting these issues more concretely.

Additionally, we have partnered with ila, a startup awarded by UN Women, to create the ALLY application, a tool that trains employees to recognize and stop harassment to create a safer working environment. Training courses for employees will be held in June, and this knowledge will be included in the onboarding process for all new employees. According to data from earlier this year, Thailand has a statistic of women experiencing violence and sexual harassment of more than 7 cases per day, ranking among the highest in the world. However, what is even more concerning is that victims may lack awareness of harassment or may feel ashamed or reluctant to speak out or file complaints. Therefore, these statistics may not accurately reflect the real situation.

Sansiri also provides understanding and caring benefits for employees, such as gender reassignment surgery leave of up to 30 days per year, and marriage leave of up to 6 days per year. Additionally, benefits extend to employees' partners, including alternative vaccines and health insurance. As a real estate developer, we support everyone’s access to suitable housing by promoting joint loans for the LGBTQIA+ community in collaboration with 8 partner banks.

On a national level, earlier this year (2024), a draft law for equal marriage passed a resolution. Sansiri celebrated the first step towards the success of supporting equal marriage under the theme Hope Blooms, Love Wins, representing hope blossoming like flowers and symbolizing a new beginning that is coming soon.

Another highlight event is that Sansiri has partnered with various partners such as Siam Commercial Bank, Krung Thai Bank, Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd., and TOA Paint (Thailand) Public Company Limited to celebrate Pride Month with the “Pride Palette Picnic”, promoting diversity and sharing happiness for all genders and ages through a food and product festival on June 8-9, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sansiri Backyard, T77 Community. The event will feature the theme “Pride in every bite, 40 Flavors One Destination,” showcasing over 40 famous street food and food truck vendors, offering a variety of dishes to try, along with over 10 shops for shopping enjoyment throughout the two days. The atmosphere will be enhanced with rainbow crosswalks and decorations throughout the T77 Community with flowers themed Love Wins, as well as opportunities for young talents and famous bands from Siam Square like Fab Filter and Again to entertain everyone throughout the event.
