The CPAC Green Solution Showcase presents the “Chaloem Phra Kiat Bridge”, the first and thinnest bridge in Thailand and ASEAN, located in front of the King Rama VI Monument at the SCG headquarters in Bang Sue. This project highlights the innovative CPAC ULTRACRETE SOLUTION, which utilizes UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) technology through advanced structural design and high-performance concrete materials. This represents a modern global trend in bridge construction and is expected to transform and elevate Thailand's construction industry to an international level. Importantly, it adheres to the principles of Green Construction, focusing on Low Carbon Construction that is environmentally friendly throughout the construction process for sustainable growth.

Mr. Chana Phumi, Vice President – Cement and Green Solution Business at SCG, revealed that CPAC Green Solution has collaborated in the construction of the ‘Chaloem Phra Kiat Bridge’, connecting the area in front of the King Rama VI Monument with the internal road of the SCG headquarters in Bang Sue. This construction follows the principles of Green Construction, utilizing Prefabrication systems and digital technology, which helps reduce manpower, shorten working time, and control budgets. The main solution introduced in this project is CPAC ULTRACRETE SOLUTION, using UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete), which is a high-performance concrete combined with new structural design technology, allowing for reduced structural size suitable for high-load construction applications while also decreasing greenhouse gas emissions in line with Low Carbon Construction.

“The uniqueness of using UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) technology lies in its ability to address the weaknesses of traditional technologies. UHPC can withstand compressive forces up to five times more than regular concrete and can handle tensile forces like steel. We employ a steam curing system to enhance compressive strength rapidly. Moreover, modern technology allows us to reduce the cross-section of the bridge structure by at least 30%, speeding up construction and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 20% compared to conventional site construction. Another outstanding feature is its lightweight, durability, and beauty”.

The “Chaloem Phra Kiat Bridge” spans 30 meters and took 9 months to construct, starting in January 2021 and completed in September 2021. The bridge's structure is based on two foundations without central piers or beams in the water. Thanks to this innovative concrete that requires no steel reinforcement, the bridge is exceptionally thin, with the thinnest section measuring only 30 centimeters. The bridge deck, excluding architectural work, is just 2.5 centimeters thick, marking a first in Thailand. All design and production processes were conducted domestically. Additionally, the construction management utilized digitization through CPAC BIM, incorporating construction data into a 3D model from design to construction and post-construction management, along with the CPAC Drone Solution for precise monitoring of progress. All these innovations enabled construction to be completed 15% faster than planned, reduced construction waste by 10%, and used only half the labor compared to standard construction.

“The Chaloem Phra Kiat Bridge serves as a landmark for a new construction model. Those interested in updating construction technology trends can visit and consult about construction technologies, as it is the first bridge in Thailand to use special materials and modern construction innovations that elevate the Thai construction industry towards sustainability, following SCG's ESG 4 Plus guidelines (aiming for Net Zero – Go Green – Lean – Equity – Reinforce Collaboration under fairness and transparency). This will enable Thailand's construction industry to compete at an international level, marking another proud achievement for CPAC Green Solution in driving towards Green Construction Solutions”, Mr. Chana concluded.
