Introducing the Concept of the 'THEMATIC PAVILION' to Spark Creativity for Design Enthusiasts Ahead of Architect'65
One of the most anticipated highlights of the annual architecture event is not only the array of innovative construction products that cater to modern lifestyles but also the exhibition booths, or "Pavilions." These are where talented designers and architects showcase their creative ideas through pavilion designs that tell intriguing and novel stories, interpreted from the unique themes of the event each year.
This year's exhibition space is particularly special as it marks the first time at the "Architect'65" event that presents pavilions in the form of a "Thematic Pavilion". This is a collaboration between emerging architects and exhibitors, showcasing designs that compare with global standards using construction products from exhibitors to reflect the theme "CO-WITH CREATORS: Interdependence" for this year. Before experiencing the actual "Thematic Pavilion" at "Architect'65", let’s explore some of the highlighted pavilions:
VG X PHTAA
This pavilion showcases the contrast in design concepts from PHTAA (Designer), which incorporates "rain gutters and roofs," a new product from VG (Supplier) made from iR-uPVC, a high-quality material that is stronger than regular vinyl, with colors that remain vibrant for over 15 years. It re-appropriates or creates new uses for materials in design, forming a Thematic Pavilion in the style of a traditional Thai house elevated on stilts, blending traditional aesthetics with modern materials, resulting in a unique and striking combination never seen before.
Additionally, the designer aims to provoke thoughts on waste and the management of materials for maximum reuse, minimizing waste to emphasize the new identity of materials derived from the re-appropriation process for VG's products.
WDC x Aca
This pavilion interprets and enhances empty spaces in the style of ACa (Designer), transforming ordinary living spaces into a "Conceptual Space of Living Units" by simulating living experiences in various rooms using tiles from WDC (Supplier), such as MEDIATE, a new patterned tile developed in collaboration with world-renowned architects for aesthetic appeal in all architectures, and the innovative MICRO TECH anti-slip tiles that feel soft when dry but become rough when wet due to their Coating Agent properties.
The pavilion adds vibrancy to living spaces by prominently displaying tile patterns and surfaces, allowing creative freedom and broadening imagination in practical spaces. It also features a routing design that guides visitors through different rooms from the first floor, allowing views of the second floor or ascending stairs, inspired by architectural elements from the series Squid Game, which is a highlight of this Thematic Pavilion.
EDL x SHER MAKER
Wider Realm of Material aims to create an enclosed experiential space in architecture, considering each model's materials from EDL (Supplier) to utilize them to their fullest potential, encouraging diverse design perspectives and expanding boundaries.
Waste of Material – EDL APTICO is based on using materials from the transportation process as the main structure. The booth is designed so that the framework can be reused without damage from the exhibition, simply by placing products along the structure to create a large enclosed space.
Ceiling Atmosphere – SHER MAKER (Designer) invites visitors to experience inspiring works and new perspectives by using PANAPLAST, a highly translucent laminate, as raw material to create a ceiling plane designed to allow light to filter through, creating an intriguing architectural atmosphere.
Use Interact – The long benches arranged in the pavilion are made from COMPACT sheets, which are thick and strong, designed as furniture that can be assembled and disassembled to enhance interaction and experiences between people and products.
TOA X ARiA Design Architects
This work conveys the design concept of the Circle of Sustainable Life, balancing living beings and nature to realize the theme of "interdependence" in this year's event in a real space, aligning with TOA (Supplier)'s goal to communicate sustainable development, innovation, and harmonious coexistence.
ARiA Design Architects (Designer) collaborated to design a beautiful, modern pavilion that integrates innovation, creating a new perspective on design that offers fresh experiences and awareness. The design features a unique form and visual impact of shapes affecting the surrounding views in both exhibition areas, utilizing TOA Organic care, a new innovative paint that uses biobased technology and is the only non-volatile organic compound in Thailand, along with new materials like TOA TILE and TOA gypsum, collectively designed to showcase TOA's material potential harmoniously.
Additionally, the concept includes creating a vertical T shape using TOA tiles arranged in a standing position, as well as bending TOA gypsum sheets to form O shapes and A legs on both sides, truly expressing the essence of TOA.
By highlighting just a few aspects of the "Thematic Pavilion", it is believed that Architect'65 will be another year to watch closely, as there are many more pavilions where designers, architects, and exhibitors will "interdepend" with each other, fully prepared to showcase their creations. It is expected that every pavilion at Architect'65 will ignite creativity among design lovers, opening up a borderless architectural world more than ever before.
Join us to experience the special exhibition space of the Thematic Pavilion and enjoy new experiences, along with other highlight activities throughout the full 6 days at "Architect'65 (Architect'22) under the theme CO-WITH CREATORS: Interdependence" from April 26 to May 1, 2022, at Challenger Hall, Impact Muang Thong Thani.
