Ministry of Finance Clarifies That Citizens Will Not Face Penalties If They Do Not Receive Property Tax Assessment Notices

Mr. Laworn Saengsanit, Director of the Fiscal Policy Office and spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, has provided clarification regarding the collection and payment of property tax for the tax year 2020 to alleviate public concerns about incurring penalties and additional fees if they do not pay their property tax by the end of August 2020. The key points are as follows:
The collection and payment of property tax must follow the legal procedures, which include sending property tax assessment notices to landowners. If the assessment is verified and found to be correct, taxpayers can proceed to pay the tax.
This can be done through various channels. For Bangkok, payments can be made at bank counters or via the QR code provided in the online banking system at the bottom of the assessment notice, or at any of the 50 district offices. In other provinces, payments can be made at local government offices or through other designated channels.
Importantly, if citizens do not receive their tax assessment notice, or if local authorities extend or postpone the payment deadline, they will not incur penalties or additional fees. Currently, several local government organizations have already extended the payment deadline beyond the end of August 2020, and many others, including Bangkok, are considering further extensions.
