Sansiri Sets a New Standard for Equality as the First Company in Thailand to Sign the UN Global Standards of Conduct for Business
Sansiri has established a new standard for equality as the first company in Thailand to sign the UN Global Standards of Conduct for Business, supporting diversity and equality within the organization for employees and partners of diverse sexual orientations, including LGBTI.
Sansiri is building on its vision of support, emphasizing and creating equality for the LGBTI community during Pride Month, a month dedicated to advocating for gender equality, with the campaign "Everyone Is Family." This campaign aims to shift perspectives, making everyone feel like a member of the family. It begins with implementing an equality policy within the organization that supports the rights of employees and partners, as well as inspiring art and community landmarks, while also collaborating with partner banks to facilitate home loan applications for LGBTI individuals, offering special promotional terms with 24-month installments.

Sansiri reinforces its position as a leader in Thai business, being the first company in Thailand to sign the United Nations Global Standards of Conduct for Business to reduce discrimination and inequality among the LGBTI community, which includes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex individuals. Sansiri is committed to fostering a corporate culture that allows all genders and groups to feel included, adhering to the core values of equality and diversity that Sansiri upholds, reflecting the new image of Sansiri, "Made for Everyone," which was grandly launched earlier this year.
Senior executives of Sansiri, led by Mr. Apichart Jutrakul (Chairman), Mr. Settha Thavisin (CEO), and Mr. Wanchak Buranasiri (President of Finance and Business Support), participated in the signing ceremony of the UN Standards of Conduct for Business, held at Siri Campus, Sansiri's new headquarters located on Sukhumvit 77.
At this significant signing ceremony, Mr. Badr Farouk, a human rights officer from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), honored the event with his presence and stated, “We want to see more private companies adopt the UN Standards, just as Sansiri has done, to foster acceptance of diversity, respect for humanity, and support for LGBTI rights in the workplace, in business, and in society.”
Additionally, Mr. Renaud Meyer, representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Thailand, remarked, “The new normal after the COVID-19 crisis should be more inclusive, and I see that Sansiri has demonstrated this today with its commitment to UN Standards regarding LGBTI rights. The OHCHR is very pleased to see Sansiri adopt the UN Standards and to show leadership in this regard. We hope this will inspire many companies in Thailand to follow this path.”
By signing this agreement, Sansiri joins a group of over 200 global companies, including Microsoft, Google, Coca-Cola, Netflix, and Nike, all of which share a common goal of creating positive change in society.
The UN Standards of Conduct for Business, developed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), aims to promote five business principles that Sansiri has committed to implementing in the workplace, in business operations, and in the community:
- Respect the human rights of LGBTI individuals in all operations and business relationships.
- Eliminate all forms of discrimination against LGBTI employees in the workplace.
- Proactively support LGBTI employees by fostering a positive environment that enables all employees to work together with dignity.
- Prevent human rights violations that may arise from discrimination against customers, partners, and other individuals.
- Publicly advocate for equality, which may include public campaigns, support for collaborative agreements, and encouraging discussions in society or providing financial or other support to organizations fighting for LGBTI rights.
“Sansiri is extremely proud to support the UN Standards of Conduct because a good corporate culture should respect human rights and reduce discrimination in the workplace. Sansiri believes that every human being should have equal rights and opportunities. This policy of promoting acceptance of differences and coexistence in equality conveys that everyone is part of the Sansiri family. From the recruitment process, Sansiri seeks the most talented and suitable individuals to join us. Therefore, if we do not consider capable individuals from all groups equally and without discrimination, we will not be able to provide the best projects and services to our customers. Sansiri aims to open opportunities for everyone to showcase their talents, making Sansiri an organization where everyone truly feels included,” said Mr. Settha Thavisin, CEO of Sansiri Public Company Limited.
“I believe it is worthwhile to implement gender equality and non-discrimination practices, as research shows that workplaces that involve all parties tend to perform better than those that do not adhere to these practices. This is because they can attract customers who care about equality and also draw talented employees who stay with the company longer. Regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, all employees express satisfaction with their work in companies that follow these practices,” he added.
“At Sansiri, we have established measures to prevent gender discrimination in the workplace, including training programs on diversity and non-discrimination for company employees, management, and sales staff involved in Sansiri projects. This training will address equal opportunities and non-discrimination practices, applicable to transactions at all levels with customers, partners, and other individuals.”
By signing and adhering to the UN Standards of Conduct, Sansiri aligns perfectly with its core business philosophy of "Made for Life," which drives the Pride Month campaign. This year, under the theme “Made for Everyone…Everyone is Family,” the campaign emphasizes understanding, equality, and care, welcoming employees, customers, business partners, and community members as if they were family.
Sansiri's Pride Month campaign aims to raise awareness and acceptance of the LGBTI community broadly, both within the community and Thai society, by incorporating the rainbow colors, a symbol of Pride Month, into Sansiri's logo and those of its subsidiaries, as well as creating various online activities for the public to participate in.
Additionally, at Siri Campus, Sansiri's headquarters, and in various residential projects throughout Bangkok (such as The Line Phahol-Pradipat, Kanasi Siri Ratchaphruek 346, and Kawa House), there will be art exhibitions on walls and fences, inviting everyone to participate in this campaign by taking photos and posting them on social media with the hashtag #SansiriPride.
“Sansiri Backyard at T77 Community” is a green community for sustainable living, inspiring people to live quality lives and enhance their well-being. During this month of equality advocacy, visitors can pick fresh, colorful vegetables and fruits to take home. At the garden entrance, there will be an art installation under the theme “The Sky After the Rain is Always Beautiful,” designed with a rainbow that symbolizes Pride Month, conveying encouragement to community members facing numerous challenges since the beginning of the year, instilling hope and strength, just like the rainbow that appears in the sky after a storm.
Siri House, the lifestyle and cultural hub of Sansiri on Somkid Alley, has also invited influencers and leaders in the social media world to host various online activities and create content under the concept of 'Stay at Home,' reflecting each individual's uniqueness.
Another significant symbol at Siri Campus is the design and allocation of gender-neutral restrooms on the first floor of every building, demonstrating non-discrimination and providing a comfortable space for users of all genders and ages.
