GHB Supports Thais in Nation Building: Easing the Impact of COVID-19 on Customers with Loan Payment Relief
Mr. Chatchai Sirilai, Managing Director of Government Housing Bank (GHB), announced that in order to assist and alleviate the economic impact on customers due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to help drive the Thai economy forward, GHB supports the government's policies.
In line with the concept of Dr. Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Finance, and the Bank of Thailand (BOT), GHB has launched the "GHB Supports Thais in Nation Building" project to ease the financial burden on GHB customers affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
This initiative covers all loan purposes, allowing customers to reduce their housing loan repayment costs and save the remaining funds for other essential living expenses while still having a home for themselves and their families. The measures are divided into three categories:
Measure 1: 3-Month Principal Payment Suspension with Monthly Interest Payments Only for customers with a loan amount not exceeding 3 million baht (no credit limit restrictions) who have a normal account status and are not in legal proceedings. Registration is open until June 30, 2020.
Measure 2: 1-Year Principal Payment Suspension with Monthly Interest Payments Only (no credit limit restrictions). After the suspension period, customers can request an extension of the repayment period for up to an additional 10 years, which will also reduce their monthly payment amount. Registration is open until April 30, 2020.
Measure 3: 6-Month Principal Payment Suspension with Interest Rate Reduced to 3.90% per Year and Monthly Interest Payments Only (credit limit of 50 billion baht). Customers wishing to use this measure must submit evidence to the bank via the Mobile Application: GHB ALL, demonstrating that the COVID-19 outbreak has impacted their income. Registration is open until April 30, 2020.
Measures 2 and 3 are available to both customers with normal account status and NPL customers of the bank. Interested customers can register their intention to participate through the Mobile Application: GHB ALL by filling out the required information and submitting the necessary documents, such as their ID number and loan account number.
Customers can choose one of the three GHB measures they wish to participate in from March 27 to April 30, 2020. They can make their payments according to the amounts notified through the Application: GHB ALL the following day or create a QR CODE from the Application: GHB ALL to scan for payment through other bank applications.
The "GHB Supports Thais in Nation Building" project aims to alleviate the financial burden for the bank's current customers, totaling 1.57 million accounts with a total credit limit of 1.22 trillion baht, as many professions are currently affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. After customers choose their desired principal payment suspension measure,
their monthly payments will decrease based on the interest rate and the original payment terms of each customer. For example, in the case of a loan amount of 1 million baht (original interest rate MRR - 0.50 = 5.775% per year), the monthly payment would typically be around 6,600 baht/month. By switching to Measure 3, the payment would drop to 3,400 baht/month.
Customers can download the Application: GHB ALL from the App Store or Play Store and can register online to participate in the project from March 27 to April 30, 2020.
