“Waste” as a National Agenda

Day by day, “waste” is becoming an urgent issue that cannot be overlooked. It is not only the increasing amount of waste from resource consumption but also the improper waste management that is inevitably impacting humanity. For instance, the incineration of plastic waste not only causes air pollution affecting the respiratory system but also allows toxins to accumulate in soil and water, leading to diseases in humans and animals, creating pollution that disrupts the natural balance, and severely affecting ecosystems and the environment.

Thailand Accelerates Plastic Waste Management Plans

Thailand ranks 6th among countries with the highest waste generation in the world and is facing environmental pollution issues caused by plastic waste. Therefore, it is good news that our country has drafted a roadmap for plastic waste management from 2021 to 2030, developed through collaboration among the government, private sector, international organizations, and concerned citizens. The first goal is to reduce and eliminate the use of seven types of plastics by 2022 and replace them with environmentally friendly materials. The second goal is to fully utilize recyclable plastic waste by 2030.

LPN: Leading the Way in Building Community Awareness to Reduce Waste

LPN, as a real estate developer and after-sales project manager, has always been aware of its responsibility towards the environment and society. For over 10 years, it has organized activities to encourage homeowners to participate in continuous waste sorting awareness campaigns. This includes setting up waste sorting bins, providing educational activities, and offering “borrowable cloth bags” in selected projects to promote a reduction in plastic bag usage from the source.

Building on Sustainability

Mr. Opas Sripak, CEO and Managing Director of L.P.N. Development Public Company Limited (LPN), expressed, “LPN views the environment as a collective responsibility where everyone must contribute. Our company has a clear approach to environmental and social responsibility both within and outside our processes. We have successfully encouraged around 130,000 families across 151 projects to participate in waste sorting, and this concept has been passed on to children and youth in the projects, who will be vital in the future.”

“This year, we have expanded our waste reduction initiatives to our customers by discontinuing the use of plastic cups in our sales offices and encouraging employees to use reusable cups and cloth bags. Additionally, we have participated in the “Worn” project by TPBI Public Company Limited, placing recycling bins for recyclable plastic waste at Lumpini Tower to help keep plastics circulating in the system and reduce the amount of waste entering the environment.”

The mission to conquer “waste” may not be a Mission Possible that can be achieved in the near future, but if everyone collaborates and embraces the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—we can believe that this little blue planet will remain a happy place for our children and all creatures for a long time to come...
