E-commerce Boom Fuels Labor Market Growth in Logistics by Over 30%
The growth of the e-commerce sector has led to an increase in the logistics business, which is developing systems to accommodate the rising volume of daily shipments. This has created a variety of delivery services to provide options for users. The key aspects of this business are speed of delivery, timely product delivery, goods in perfect condition, professional and courteous staff, as well as preparing both full-time and part-time employees to meet the significantly increased service demands today. Manpower Group has indicated the trends in the logistics labor market in the country, which align with the current growth trajectory of the business sector and the readiness of the education sector to supply the labor market in the future.
In 2018, the direction of the logistics labor market in the country, which corresponds with the current growth trend, showed that the labor market in the logistics business grew by more than 30%, including warehouse services, transportation, services, and office staff. In 2019, it is expected to grow further, driven by changes in consumer purchasing behavior towards the digital age, resulting in further growth of the e-commerce business.
According to a survey by the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Thailand has the highest growth rate of B2C (Business to Consumer) in ASEAN. Comparing the value between 2016 and 2017, it increased by over 160 billion baht, partly due to confidence in technology and the more convenient e-Payment systems. Faster transportation has led consumers to increasingly prefer online shopping, along with marketing campaigns and promotional discounts. The projected value of e-commerce in Thailand reached 3.2 trillion baht in 2018, especially during various festivals when e-commerce operators launched promotional marketing campaigns. Last year, some operators achieved sales exceeding one billion baht, with order volumes surpassing one million items in a short period. The most popular product categories included consumer goods for children, electronics, smartphones, cosmetics, and skincare.
