For online shoppers, 'discounted products' seem to be a factor that they eagerly anticipate, almost like waiting for lottery results. Recently, we had the 11.11 Sale or Singles' Day, and coming up next is Black Friday (November 23, 2018). Although this event isn't as lively in Thailand, it still helps generate income for e-commerce stores. For those who missed these two major sales, there's still the 12.12 Sale to look forward to at the end of the year.

It is believed that both new and established e-commerce stores must study data to find the best 'value' before launching promotions. iPrice, a price comparison shopping platform, has gathered data on product views during the 11.11 Sale festival from November 10, 11, and 12 for both 2017 and 2018, to analyze what else you might not know about this grand event!

Website Traffic Behavior on iPriceThailand during November 10, 11, and 12 in 2017 and 2018

Starting from November 10 (Pre-Singles Day), it seems that people began shopping online from 7:00 AM, similar to 2017. However, in 2018, the number of visitors to the website steadily increased, with a slight drop around 1:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM, but it rose again until midnight. This was different from 2017, where the numbers fluctuated throughout the day.

Moving on to November 11, or 11.11 Sale, the number of visitors started to rise from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM. After that, there was a slight decrease from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but it increased again until 8:00 PM, which was the peak time of the day. In contrast, in 2017, visitors began shopping from 6:00 AM and saw a slight drop between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, peaking at 10:00 PM.

Finally, on November 12, 2018, many large e-commerce stores continued to offer additional promotions, resulting in traffic patterns similar to Singles' Day, with visitors from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM, a slight decrease from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and another peak at 9:00 PM. This was different from 2017, where traffic started at 5:00 AM but increased steadily, peaking at 10:00 PM.

The 10 Provinces with the Most Product Views during the 11.11 Sale

Unsurprisingly, the province with the highest number of product views is Bangkok, due to its convenient transportation and more extensive campaign promotions compared to other areas. Following closely is Chonburi, which is not far from Bangkok and also has an efficient transportation system. Next is Chiang Mai, another major city that could be considered the capital of the North, followed by Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Pathom, Khon Kaen, Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Surat Thani, and Songkhla in that order.

What Are People Searching for the Most on Google during the 11.11 Sale with the Keyword 'Discount'

It seems that most online shoppers already have their favorite stores, so searching for discounts often includes the names of e-commerce stores, such as Lazada discounts, Shopee codes, or Grab promo codes. The study found that searches containing the word 'discount' can be categorized into five major groups: Lazada, Shopee, Grab, travel programs, and general discount coupons. It can be said that Thai shoppers are quite alert to the online product discount festival like the 11.11 Sale. This year, it appears that the promotions are not limited to just November 11, as many e-commerce stores are running hot promotions throughout the week, with some even offering deals before and after the festival.

3 Provinces that are Fans of 4 Leading E-commerce Stores

Data collected using Google Trends alongside keywords for the four leading e-commerce stores in Thailand shows that each store attracts shoppers from different provinces. Starting with Lazada, which is favored by online shoppers from Prachinburi, Phang Nga, and Bueng Kan. Next is Shopee, which has captured the hearts of shoppers from Amnat Charoen, Nan, and Trang. The new e-commerce store JD Central is also gaining traction, with shoppers from Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, and Phitsanulok supporting it. Finally, ShopAt24, which is part of the well-known convenience store chain 7-Eleven, has fans from Saraburi, Songkhla, and notably, Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

All this data seems to further support the idea that the online product discount festival 11.11 Sale is becoming a significant event for both shoppers and e-commerce stores in Thailand, both new and established. This information comes from iPriceThailand, supplemented by Google Trends search data. It can be anticipated that e-commerce stores participating in the 11.11 Sale will not differ much, and this data could be crucial for planning promotions for next year. Who knows, next year some stores might devise clever promotional strategies that keep website traffic high throughout the day!
