“The Treasury Department” plans to lay foundation piles for the Thai public housing project in 2019, totaling 2,300 units across 5 provinces nationwide, with a price cap of 700,000 Baht per unit, allowing low-income earners to pay just 3,000 Baht a month. Meanwhile, the Government Savings Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives are preparing to release 4 billion Baht in loans.

Mr. Amnuay Preemnuang, Director-General of the Treasury Department, revealed that the department has signed a lease agreement for state land for the construction and management of the Thai public housing project on state land parcel number ChB.633 in Plutaluang, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, covering an area of 10-0-00 rai. The rights have been granted to For Con Company, with a project value of 175.30 million Baht. Another state land parcel number Pk.573 in Tub Tai, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, covering an area of 6-3-01 rai, has been granted to Prachuap Grand Hotel Company, with a project value of 126.47 million Baht. It is expected that the project developer will start selling to the public this year.

Additionally, there are public housing projects in three more provinces: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Khon Kaen, where all project winners have been selected. Lease agreements for construction are expected to be signed by December 2018, with a long-term lease of 30 years at a rate of 1 Baht per square wah per month. The total project value for all five locations is approximately 4 billion Baht, with the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and the Government Savings Bank jointly providing loans of 2 billion Baht to the project developers and another 2 billion Baht for the public to purchase homes.

Mr. Amnuay stated that the Thai public housing project is in line with the government's policy to provide housing for low-income citizens, allowing them to own homes on state land. Those who register and hold a state welfare card will have priority to reserve ownership. If they are unable to secure a loan, those with monthly incomes not exceeding 30,000 Baht and the general public will be able to reserve homes in order. In previous consultations across the five provinces, there were over 2,900 requests for housing reservations, exceeding the 2,300 units available for sale.

“The number of reservations in the Pre-Sale round reported by the Treasury Department is over 2,900 units, mostly from state welfare cardholders. After this, they can immediately contact to purchase their housing rights. If the bank approves their loans, they can move in by the end of 2019, with a price per unit not exceeding 700,000 Baht and monthly payments not exceeding 3,000 Baht,” Mr. Amnuay said.

For the state land in Chonburi, the project includes residential areas with 12 two-story residential buildings totaling 252 units, and commercial areas with a two-story Community Mall featuring a food center, minimart, department store, and activity area. In Prachuap Khiri Khan, the project consists of residential areas with two four-story buildings totaling 90 units and two five-story buildings totaling 120 units, for a total of 210 units, along with a single-story community market with 106 stalls.
