39th Housing and Condo Fair Concludes: Survey Indicates Main Purchases from Real Demand Group, No Impact from BOT Measures
October 10, 2018 - A survey following the 39th Housing and Condo Fair indicates that the demand for housing from the real demand group remains high, with condominiums continuing to be the most popular choice.

Mr. Pitiphat Preedanont, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 39th Housing and Condo Fair, revealed the survey results after the event, stating that over the four days from October 4-7, attendance was similar to previous fairs, and the number of housing bookings met the targets set. It is expected that sales will follow, amounting to at least double the bookings made during the event. The top three types of housing booked at the fair were condominiums, accounting for 38%, followed by single houses at 37%, and townhouses at 17%, with the remaining 8% consisting of duplexes and other types. Additionally, there were loan applications exceeding 10 billion baht.

“The survey also indicated that about 80% of those who decided to purchase housing at this event did so for actual residence, while 20% bought for investment. This suggests that the Bank of Thailand's credit control measures, which focus on homes priced at 10 million baht and above and second homes, have not significantly impacted consumers purchasing housing at the 39th Housing and Condo Fair. Over 63% of attendees were first-time visitors, while approximately 37% had attended at least once before. The majority of attendees were from the Gen Y group aged 21-30 years (38%), followed by those aged 31-40 years (32%), and 30% were from the Gen X group aged 41-50 years. The survey on personal monthly income showed that 45% of attendees earned no more than 30,000 baht, while 26% earned between 30,000-50,000 baht, and 29% earned over 50,000 baht.”

“Regarding the desired timeframe for future purchases, 31% indicated they plan to buy within 1-2 years, while 32% plan to buy within 6-12 months, and 37% within 1-3 months. In terms of budget for purchasing different types of housing, 27% of attendees are looking for properties priced at 1-2 million baht, 29% at 2-3 million baht, and 32% at 3-4 million baht, with only 12% interested in properties priced below 1 million baht,” Mr. Pitiphat concluded.

The 40th Housing and Condo Fair is scheduled to take place from March 21-24, 2019, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, with Mr. Nopphong Priphanpachon as the chairman of the organizing committee for the 40th fair.
