Facebook's name change to Meta is seen as the beginning of a new era for social media. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, believes that the Metaverse is the future of the internet. The concept of the Metaverse is not new; we often see ideas related to it in movies and science fiction literature. The Metaverse refers to an internet that exists as a virtual reality world, consisting of interconnected 3D environments. The term 'Metaverse' originates from the novel Snow Crash, which depicts humans in a future escaping a decaying reality to live in a virtual world like the Metaverse.

What we can expect from Meta is the integration of various devices within the Meta (or Facebook) ecosystem, such as apps like WhatsApp and Instagram, devices like Oculus and Portal, and other devices currently in development, such as the headset in Project Cambria and AR glasses in Project Nazare. The core software of the Metaverse is called Horizon, which is still under development. Analysts are also interested in how goods and even currencies will be represented in the Metaverse.

However, some analysts view this rebranding of Meta as Mark Zuckerberg's attempt to distance himself from various scandals and the negative image of Facebook. Zuckerberg later denied this perspective, stating that the idea existed before the controversies arose, making it an inopportune time to launch a new brand. Nevertheless, he proceeded to demonstrate a forward-looking vision. In an interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg expressed his desire to convey that his company does more than just social media like Facebook; he wants to emphasize that his company is creating technology to connect people and enable interactions.

From this point, we must keep an eye on how the Metaverse developed by Meta will take shape. Zuckerberg believes that by the latter half of this decade, the Metaverse will become something truly significant.
