Weekly Regional Economic Situation Report as of May 20, 2022
The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) reports on the weekly regional economic situation as of May 20, 2022, as follows:
(1) The number of newly registered trucks in April 2022 grew by 2.0% year-on-year.
(2) New factory operations in April 2022 had an investment value of 13,055 million baht, with significant capital in the Eastern region, Northeastern region, and Bangkok and its vicinity.
“The private investment economy is reflected in the declining number of newly registered trucks in several regions, while factories that have commenced operations show high capital investment in the Eastern region, Northeastern region, and Bangkok and its vicinity.”

In April 2022, the number of newly registered trucks was 6,106 units, representing a growth of 2.0% year-on-year. This is a decrease from the previous month (and when adjusted for seasonal effects, it shows a growth of 0.14% month-on-month seasonally adjusted compared to the previous month). The details are as follows:
1) Bangkok and Vicinity grew by 21.1% year-on-year, with strong growth in Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi, and Bangkok.
2) Northern Region grew by 6.3% year-on-year, with strong growth in Tak, Phichit, and Phrae.
3) Southern Region grew by 2.0% year-on-year, with good growth in Trang, Chumphon, and Surat Thani.
4) Northeastern Region contracted by -0.8% year-on-year, with growth in Nakhon Phanom, Nong Bua Lam Phu, and Bueng Kan.
5) Eastern Region contracted by -8.1% year-on-year, with growth in Trat and Nakhon Nayok.
6) Central Region contracted by -9.4% year-on-year, with growth in Saraburi.
7) Western Region contracted by -23.1% year-on-year, with contraction in all provinces of the region.

The capital of factories that commenced operations in April 2022 amounted to 13,055 million baht, with investments distributed across several regions, particularly:
1) Eastern Region had a capital of 7,342 million baht, with investments in Rayong amounting to 5,301 million baht, including a factory producing and selling electricity of 115 megawatts and steam of 114.4 tons/hour, and selling steam of 40 tons/hour, totaling 4,650 million baht. Additionally, there was an investment of 573 million baht in a factory for washing, crushing, shredding, and producing plastic pellets, and investments in Chonburi amounting to 1,663 million baht, with significant capital for factories producing chemicals for rubber and other equipment, such as rubber antioxidants, amounting to 1,109.5 million baht.
2) Northeastern Region had a capital of 3,521 million baht, with investments in Nakhon Ratchasima amounting to 3,149 million baht, including a factory for producing ready-made animal feed amounting to 3,093.5 million baht.
3) Bangkok and Vicinity had a capital of 1,376 million baht, with investments in Bangkok amounting to 556.15 million baht, including significant capital for engine repair and maintenance services amounting to 495.15 million baht.
