What Happens to Used Tires? Does Anyone Know?
Hello everyone in the TiresBid community! Today, I'm back with you again. This article may not be about recommending or explaining the benefits of tires or sharing tips about them. Instead, TiresBid wants to campaign for everyone to help protect the environment and ensure safety for our community.
In reality, tires are waste that cannot decompose on their own. They need to go through processes like cutting, shredding, and burning to be broken down and reused as fuel or energy for producing various items. This is the primary method currently used in Thailand. But do you know what the consequences are if we don’t dispose of them properly?

First of all, they can become a habitat for various animals. The inside of a tire is quite dark and safe for small creatures like centipedes, snakes, or even a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Therefore, for those in the TiresBid community who have tires stored at home, whether outdoors or indoors, we strongly advise against keeping them. They could unintentionally become a home for venomous creatures, posing a risk to your family without you even realizing it. If you want to make use of them, it’s better to put them to use rather than letting them sit idle. At least, this will help reduce the mosquito population.

Secondly, they can accumulate harmful chemicals. You might think that since tires are made from natural rubber, they wouldn’t have much of an impact, right? But actually, a single tire contains less than 30% natural rubber. The rest consists of steel, nylon, and synthetic rubber made from chemicals. Therefore, if you don’t intend to keep the tires for use, it’s better to leave them at a shop. Otherwise, it’s like keeping chemicals in your home for no reason.

Thirdly, they become waste that we don’t know what to do with. Eventually, we end up throwing them in the trash, which garbage trucks won’t collect, turning them into public waste and continuously degrading the environment in our cities and homes. Some of you living by rivers or canals may have seen tires floating around. Therefore, tires are not something to be regretted; they should be properly disposed of. You can send them to TiresBid, where we will recycle them and donate the proceeds to the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation.

Now, how does TiresBid suggest we reuse or recycle them? First, if you’re close to home, you can use tires to plant trees, or you can cut them to make outdoor tables. However, TiresBid doesn’t really recommend this because the chemicals will still be close to you. The next method we suggest is to leave them at a shop. Most shops will handle them in two ways: 1) sell them as used tires, which helps slow down the increase in waste, but ultimately doesn’t eliminate the waste problem, or 2) shred them and separate the rubber from the steel wire, which can then be recycled and reused. The rubber can be made into sheets again for use as walking surfaces for animals or as mats for various items. Lastly, the rubber scraps can be burned as fuel, which helps reduce the amount of waste that is hard to decompose.
Currently, TiresBid is trying to be part of the campaign to reduce waste in our homes as much as possible. We will send the tires to factories for processing into energy. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation, hoping to contribute to both waste reduction and the restoration of Thailand’s forests. If you want to donate tires, you can inquire about drop-off locations via our official Line: @tiresbid. We hope TiresBid can be a channel to help Thai society, even if just a little.
