7 Retail and Wholesale Brands (Q1/2018 Performance)
In the first quarter of 2018, the Thai economy continued to expand, with private consumption gradually increasing due to rising consumer confidence. The retail sector also appears to have improved its performance. TerraBKK Research has tracked the Q1/2018 performance of 7 retail and wholesale brands, with details as follows:
CP All (CPALL)
The convenience store business under the 7-ELEVEN brand aims to have a total of 13,000 branches by 2021, with a target of opening around 700 new branches in 2018. In Q1/2018, 265 new branches were opened, bringing the total number of 7-ELEVEN stores nationwide to 10,533. The overall performance figures for Q1/2018 are as follows:
• Revenue from sales and services: 73,786 million baht, an increase of 12.6% from the same period last year
• Average sales per store per day: 81,226 baht
• Average purchase per bill: 69 baht
• Average number of customers per branch per day: 1,183 people
Siam Makro (MAKRO)
The wholesale distribution center under the Makro brand reported a total revenue of 48.3 billion baht in Q1/2018, with a 3.6% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. This growth was attributed to sales from new branches opened since 2017, food service business sales, and sales from the first Makro store in Cambodia, which opened in mid-December 2017. In Q1/2018, one new branch was opened in Pracha Uthit, bringing the total number of Makro branches nationwide to 124, with a total sales area of 734,709 square meters and a net profit of 1.62 billion baht in Q1/2018.
Home Product Center (HMPRO)
The one-stop shopping home center under the HomePro brand reported total revenue of 15.9 billion baht in Q1/2018, an increase of 4.11%, with a net profit of 1.24 billion baht, up 19.33% from the same period last year. This was due to improved cost control and management efficiency, as well as a comprehensive range of products at reasonable prices. In Q1/2018, one new HomePro branch was opened at The Paseo, Kanchanaphisek, bringing the total to 81 HomePro branches, 4 HomePro S branches, 12 Mega Home branches, and 6 HomePro branches in Malaysia.
Central Pattana (CPN)
The shopping center under the Central brand reported total revenue of 8.48 billion baht in Q1/2018, an increase of 6.7% from the same period last year, with a net profit of 2.82 billion baht. The overall Q1/2018 figures are as follows:
• Average occupancy rate of shopping centers: 91%, slightly down (Q1/2017 = 93%) due to major renovations at CentralWorld.
• Average rental rate of existing shopping centers: 1,670 baht per square meter per month, up 3.1% from the same period last year, resulting from rental increases, new lease agreements, and reduced rents in most shopping centers.
Robinson Department Store (ROBINS)
Robinson Department Store reported total revenue of 7.64 billion baht in Q1/2018, an increase of 4.9% from the same period last year, driven by improved customer spending and investment income from existing branches and two new branches opened last year. The occupancy rate of shopping centers was 99%, with a net profit of 762 million baht, up 7.3% from the same period last year.
Siam Global House (GLOBAL)
The one-stop shopping center for construction materials under the Global House brand reported total revenue of 6.70 billion baht in Q1/2018, an increase of 20.7% from the same period last year, due to increased sales from existing and 5 new branches, with a net profit of 564 million baht, up 16.5% from the same period last year.
FN Factory Outlet (FN)
The outlet store under the FN Outlet brand reported total revenue of 274 million baht in Q1/2018, an increase of 3.16% from the same period last year, mainly due to improving sales trends since late February 2018, along with various promotional activities such as the FN Fair at the headquarters and FN Thank You sales at various branches. The net profit was 16 million baht, down 30.5% from the same period last year due to increased expenses from opening new branches (Hat Yai and Chachoengsao branches) and marketing expenses related to promotional activities. ---TerraBKK
