“We will continue, preserve, and enhance, and rule the land with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the people forever”
from the inaugural royal proclamation of His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn, during the royal coronation ceremony on May 4, 2019, reflects his commitment to continue and enhance the royal initiatives of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for the benefit of the people.
Throughout the time that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, Rama X, held the title of Crown Prince, he learned the principles of royal work from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, in various fields by accompanying him in royal duties almost everywhere. Upon ascending to the throne, he continued the projects initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej to maximize benefits for the Thai people.

He visited the residents of Ban Kham Nam Sang, Khao Nuea Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yasothon Province, on November 28, 2000, and provided royal guidance for the development and improvement of the area by dredging Nong Ueng, a public benefit area, along with soil improvement and reforestation efforts, including planting trees and vetiver grass, as well as restoring the surrounding forest over an area of more than 3,006 rai, with the participation of the local community in developing the area around Nong Ueng.
The Nong Ueng area is where two rivers converge, the Chi River and the Yang River. This low-lying area serves as a waterway, leading to flooding problems during the rainy season. For survival, villagers have encroached on the forest, built homes, and practiced shifting cultivation, with some having to migrate to work in the city.

Later, in 2003, it was established as “Dong Man Community Forest” to fulfill the royal initiative of “restoring the forest to allow people to coexist with nature sustainably”.
The Dong Man Community Forest is the only dry land forest that is not flooded, characterized by a mixed deciduous forest. It serves as a crucial resource for seven target villages, providing a source of forest products, firewood, as well as areas for crop cultivation and livestock grazing. The forest resources are in a degraded state, with approximately 800 rai of fertile forest remaining, 1,200 rai of degraded forest, and about 800 rai of abandoned farmland.
The restoration of the forest in the Nong Ueng area, as a result of the royal initiative, has been highly successful. The problems of natural resource degradation have been reversed, restoring the area to its former richness and serving as a model for sustainable problem-solving.
