Thais Spend Over 10 Hours Planning Trips
Everyone has likely experienced the headache of sifting through a plethora of information when trying to plan a vacation, whether it's a long holiday trip abroad or a short getaway to a nearby province. It's inevitable to waste time searching for travel information, and a recent survey by Hotels.com™ reveals that many Thai travelers are suffering from 'Net Lag', or fatigue from excessive online research.
The survey indicates that more than one in three Thai travelers (38%) consider planning a holiday trip to be one of the most stressful aspects of their lives. This isn't surprising, as Thai tourists spend over 10 hours per trip gathering information and planning before deciding to book accommodations or flights. The survey also revealed that nearly half (48%) of Thais spend more time planning their trips than they do with their loved ones, and 66% admitted to having booked the wrong hotel or selected the wrong dates due to confusion from the overwhelming amount of information.
'Net Lag', or fatigue from excessive online research, occurs after using the internet for information for more than 48 minutes. The time spent planning trips has led as many as 80% of Thai travelers to choose to revisit places they have been before to avoid the hassle of searching for new destinations or planning anew. Furthermore, 51% have even decided to cancel trips altogether. The survey found that 63% are willing to pay more to avoid the hassle of planning, and over one in three (40%) would even hire someone else to plan their trips for them.
Additionally, the survey highlights that planning holiday trips impacts workplace productivity, with 61% of respondents admitting to secretly searching for travel information while at work, and 54% acknowledging that this secret searching affects their overall work performance. It's no surprise that nearly one in four (24%) Thais consider at least five different travel plans before deciding on accommodations or flights.
Moreover, the survey shows that nearly all Thai travelers (95%) prioritize reviews from other travelers above all else. To help Thai travelers avoid 'Net Lag', Hotels.com has announced the winners of the Loved by Guest awards for 2019, which recognizes hotels with the highest ratings from guest reviews, thereby reducing the time needed to search for accommodations.
