Living Near the MRT: 3 Stations at Rich Park2 Taopoon-Interchange

Since the official opening of the Chalong Ratchadamri Line or Purple Line on August 6, 2016, the area has experienced a boom, raising concerns about potential over supply. In Nonthaburi, where an average of 5,000-7,000 new condominium units are launched each year, the supply has been steadily absorbed. It can be said that the Purple Line area, particularly the Taopoon location, has been effective in managing supply, especially as it serves as an Interchange for the Blue Line and is close to the Grand Station at Bangsue Central Station.

How Much Has the Purple Line Grown in 3 Years?

For regular users of the Purple Line, it is clear that the number of passengers is significant, especially at Taopoon, which is comparable to the On Nut station on the Green Line. Looking back at the statistics from 2016, just two months after the service began, the average ridership was 1.15 million trips per day, equating to approximately 21,000 trips per day.

After one year, the report from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand for 2017 indicated that from October 2016 to September 2017, the ridership on the Purple Line reached 9.51 million trips per day, showing a slight increase to an average of 26,000 trips per day, peaking at around 46,000 trips in September. In 2018, it was estimated that the average ridership would reach 60,000 trips per day, proving that there is a substantial population working in central Bangkok while residing in the Nonthaburi-Bangkok border area.

This makes the Purple Line, especially in the early sections like Taopoon, a promising location for accommodating residents from Nonthaburi and western Bangkok who wish to maintain their family ties or have a second home without moving far from their original residence.

The Potential of Taopoon: Close to the ‘Bangsue Central Station’

The mega project that will transform northern Bangkok, Bangsue Central Station, is another initiative that significantly enhances the potential of Taopoon. The station will serve as a hub for high-speed trains, suburban rail, airport rail links, and long-distance trains. Initially, it will connect with the Red Line suburban train, with the station expected to open in 2020.

In addition to being a transportation hub, there are also plans for land development around the station, organized into five zones: Zone A: Smart Business Complex, Zone B: ASEAN Commercial and Business Hub, Zone C: Smart Healthy and Vibrant, Zone D: World Renowned Garden Interchange Plaza, and the Railway Industrial Estate, covering a total area of over 2,235 rai.

Once Bangsue Central Station, the largest railway junction in the country, opens, the nearby Taopoon area will undoubtedly benefit significantly. Not only will it have a large, modern job center creating a New Town, but Taopoon will also be a choice for people from other provinces moving to work in Bangkok, looking for condominiums that allow easy access back to their hometowns. From Bangsue Central Station, one can reach Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, Chanthaburi, and Padang Besar, covering the entire north to south.

What Else to Expect from the Purple Line?

In 2019, there are more positive developments enhancing the potential of Taopoon, including the opening of the Blue Line Extension from Bangsue to Thaphra and Hua Lamphong to Bangkae, completing a circular route around the city.

The complete circular route of the Blue Line increases opportunities for Taopoon as it enhances travel options for residents in Thonburi or Nonthaburi, looking for condominiums for family expansion or as a second home.

Additionally, being the starting point of the Interchange station, Taopoon is viewed as a location with greater potential than other areas along the Purple Line.
