The construction industry is one of the key sectors contributing significantly to the Thai economy, generating trillions of baht annually. However, it can also accelerate global warming due to massive carbon dioxide emissions. If developers and stakeholders in these businesses incorporate technology and innovation, along with collaboration from all sectors, this industry could become a crucial key to reducing global impacts and driving Thailand towards sustainable development.

The EEC Engineering Network responds to the global green trend by organizing “The NOVA Expo 2025”, the only event that brings together the most comprehensive innovations and technologies for the modern construction industry from over 100 companies both domestically and internationally. This seminar aims to reduce global pollution and is considered a significant environmental engineering event that all sectors must attend to lower carbon dioxide emissions. It took place from March 12 to 14 at the BITEC Bangna Exhibition and Convention Center, expected to generate economic value worth billions of baht.

Dr. Pirun Sayasithpanit, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, opened The NOVA Expo 2025 and highlighted climate change as a critical global issue in recent years. Thailand has committed to the COP meetings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40-60% by 2035, including achieving carbon neutrality.

In line with this mission, the department is accelerating a just transition with concrete climate policies and preparing a draft Climate Change Act to build resilience against impacts and enhance the country's competitiveness sustainably. The NOVA Expo 2025 is a crucial event that will help Thailand follow the path declared at the COP meetings.

Dr. Kesha Teerakomen, CEO of EEC Engineering Network Co., Ltd., which organizes The NOVA Expo 2025 under the concept “Green Innovation Revolution & Green Data Center,” stated that the purpose of the event is to showcase building innovations, technologies, and product designs related to modern cities and buildings in Thailand, focusing on reducing carbon dioxide emissions and using resources efficiently.

The NOVA Expo 2025 is a significant collaboration from all sectors, including government, private, business, and education, to share knowledge to reduce carbon emissions and jointly develop the Thai construction industry. The economic value of the construction industry is estimated at 1.5 to 2 trillion baht per year, with a projected growth of 10-15% by 2025, releasing approximately 30-50 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

The event features interesting activities to promote knowledge sharing and experiences for interested participants, such as a pavilion showcasing examples of Net-Zero Carbon Buildings, exhibitions of outstanding sustainable development projects, the CECI (Circular Economy in Construction Industry) exhibition, and the Nova Map & Tour zone to showcase innovations from over 100 companies both domestically and internationally, presented in an easily understandable format. Innovations like the Cooling as a Service system for buildings and condos are expected to significantly reduce energy consumption in the future.

One of the key highlights is the Stage and Conference, featuring leading speakers from both domestic and international backgrounds discussing global trends, such as The Breakthrough, Data Center: Unlocking Digital and Benefits for Thais / Building Enhancement, The Greenest Future: Upgrading Buildings, Opportunities in a Carbon-Neutral Society / Future of Clean Air: Innovations for Clean Air / and the first unveiling of support policies from the Bank of Thailand to combat global crises at the Climate Finance & Thailand Taxonomy forum, along with the Engineers Council's announcement of 9 measures aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.

Dr. Kesha Teerakomen emphasized that a significant barrier preventing these innovations from becoming widespread is the lack of action. Therefore, collaboration among all agencies is essential to foster the idea of forming a community of like-minded individuals, known as The Nova Community, which has gained acceptance from stakeholders across all sectors and is growing stronger each year.

Additionally, there was a keynote speech by Mr. Pawit Ketsawong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, on “Challenges and Opportunities for Thai Businesses from the Climate Change Act.” The Climate Change Act will serve as a key mechanism to drive the country towards sustainable economic and social development and will support environmental investments through the establishment of a climate resilience fund to assist both loans and grants to the private sector for developing environmentally friendly technologies.

Dr. Tawarath Sutabut, Director of the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (Public Organization), delivered a special lecture on ‘Smart & Learning City: How to Build and Sustain Development’—opening doors to the future with the concept of smart cities and learning cities using advanced technologies like IoT and digital platforms to transform cities into more than just living spaces, growing alongside a strong economy, an equitable society, and a clean environment.

The NOVA Expo 2025: Green Innovations Changing the World is the first and only event in Thailand that provides both knowledge and practical guidelines for a green global society, scheduled for March 12-14, 2025, at Hall 103-104, BITEC Bangna, Bangkok.
