7 Tips to Shake Off Laziness!
If you're feeling like your room is getting cluttered because you haven't cleaned it in a while, making excuses for everything, and saying “later” so often that it’s become a habit, these signs might indicate that laziness is creeping in. Here are some secrets to help you shake off that laziness.
Step 1: Find Motivation
The primary cause of laziness is often a lack of motivation. You can fix this by constantly reminding yourself of your goals. For instance, if you need to reorganize your home, try finding beautiful room decoration images and stick them in places where you can see them often.
You can also use the technique from Dr. Gook - Kanada Boonsothor Satit, author of Last in Class, Emerged as a Scholarship Student (Abroad), which suggests that when you set a goal, you should announce it to the world. For example, say, “Today, I will finish the assigned work” or “I will complete my study materials”. Doing this serves as a great motivator because when you start to feel lazy, you’ll remember that many people are waiting to see your progress.
Step 2: Tackle One Task at a Time
Many people try to handle all their tasks at once, thinking it’s a good idea to finish everything on time and then relax. However, this can lead to mistakes and drain your energy, making you crave breaks more often and fall into laziness. It’s better to focus on one task at a time, starting with the most urgent ones.
Step 3: Break Tasks into Smaller Parts
Many people procrastinate when faced with large, daunting tasks because they don’t know where to start. A key tip is to break the work into smaller parts and begin with the easiest or smallest section. Once you complete a small task, you’ll realize that finishing the next part isn’t as overwhelming as you initially thought.
Step 4: Take Breaks
Working straight through until you finish before taking a break may not be the best approach. Continuous work for more than 30-40 minutes can dull your brain and reduce your efficiency. As Joe Robinson, a stress management expert and quality of life trainer, states, working 48 hours a week doubles brain stress and is a significant cause of heart disease. This is why many Europeans enjoy taking naps during the day.
Try taking breaks while working using the 20/10 technique: work for 20 minutes and then take a 10-minute break, or the 45/15 technique: work for 45 minutes and then take a 15-minute break.
Step 5: If You Can't Do It, Don't Force It
If you’ve been trying hard to work for an hour and still can’t make progress, consider switching to something else. It could be a small household chore like organizing your desk or ironing clothes. While doing these activities, you might think, “Why am I wasting time on this when I should be working?” Afterward, you’ll feel more energized to tackle your work again. This approach not only helps you get started but also leaves you with a tidy desk and neatly pressed clothes.
Step 6: Nature Therapy Can Help
Jill Thomas, a naturopath, suggests ways to shake off fatigue by exercising in the morning, eating a high-fiber, low-protein, and low-sugar breakfast to maintain stable blood sugar levels, consuming 300-500 grams of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains daily to keep blood acidity levels balanced, drinking 1.5-2 liters of clean water daily to promote waste elimination, and consuming healthy fats and essential fatty acids (EFAs) like omega-3 and omega-6 to enhance brain cell communication and hormone production. These methods will help energize your body and prepare you for a fresh start to the day.
Step 7: Write Down Clear Goals
Try writing down your work or life goals as bullet points on several sticky notes, then place them where you can see them often, such as on your desk, refrigerator, bedside table, or bathroom mirror. When you achieve a goal, cross it off one by one. This method helps you see that you are indeed capable of accomplishing tasks, which will motivate you to continue pursuing your goals.
Give it a try! It might help you eliminate some of that laziness, even if just a little.
