Transforming Boring Mondays into a 'Happy' Day for Salaried Workers
“Holidays always seem to pass by quickly” has become a popular phrase among salaried workers. After enjoying a blissful weekend, transitioning back to the chaotic Monday morning can be a challenge. With piles of paperwork to clear, emails to check, and new tasks lined up, just the thought of Monday can be overwhelming!
Since we can't stop time from moving forward, let's try changing our perspective instead. Here are some tips to help alleviate those Monday blues and turn a dull Monday into a bright and joyful day. Ready? Let's go!
1. Stay Calm and Don't Rush to Friday
Why rush to Friday? To face the new week without worries, ensure you have no urgent tasks left over from the previous week. So, on Friday evening, don’t be too quick to shut down your computer and rush out to hang out with friends. Make sure you’ve wrapped up all your work so that nothing lingers in your mind over the weekend and carries over to Monday.
2. Unplug After Work on the Weekend
Make sure to fully enjoy your time off. Don’t sneak work home with you. Not only will it make you feel like you’re working non-stop, but it will also ruin the good atmosphere at home. Try to completely unplug—don’t think about work, check emails, or contact clients. Just relax and enjoy your weekend!
3. List Things to Do Each Day
On Sunday afternoon, take a moment to list “3 good things that will happen this week.” For example, you might meet an important client on Tuesday, welcome a new employee on Wednesday, and present your best work on Friday. If you can’t think of anything, you could list “3 things you want to change this week.” Trust me, your Monday will be much more enjoyable!
4. Make Time for Yourself
Try going to bed early on Sunday night and waking up 30 minutes earlier than usual. You’ll find that you have time to do various things for yourself. Use that little time to meditate, shop for fresh groceries at the morning market, cook healthy meals, do yoga, or take your dog for a walk. You’ll realize you’re not just a robot whose only job is to wake up, work, and sleep.
5. Wear Your Favorite Outfit
Choose the outfit that always gets compliments, the one that makes you feel the most confident, or a new outfit you want to show off to your friends. Wear it on Monday! This will make you fall in love with Mondays and look forward to them, as feeling good about yourself is the first step towards a positive outlook.
6. Steer Clear of Gossipy Friends
Every office has that one colleague who loves to gossip and complain about everything—from work issues to traffic jams, unruly kids, and even cat births. They can unknowingly bring you down. So, on Monday morning, avoid hanging out with these people. Instead, step away or put on your headphones and listen to your favorite music to lift your spirits.
7. Spread Happiness Around You
Now that you’ve created your own happiness, don’t forget to share it with those around you. This will surely help change the atmosphere at work. You could share fun stories from your weekend, update your colleagues on the news you watched that morning, or bring some delicious snacks to share with your coworkers.
8. Make Monday Evening Special
Who said Monday evenings can’t be fun? Let’s turn Monday evening into something special. You could designate it as a day to meet up with old friends, bake something sweet, or play games with your kids. If you can’t think of any fun activities, just find a favorite TV show to watch. Just like that, Monday can become a truly happy day for you!
