Thai Households: What Are Their Monthly Income & Expenses?
TerraBKK Research conducted a survey reflecting the monthly income and expenses of Thai households across various categories. The findings reveal that the income of Thai households from 2009 to 2017 grew by 28.9%, averaging 3.6% per year over the past eight years, which is lower than the growth of household expenses, which increased by 32.3% or an average of 4.0% per year.
The National Statistical Office, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society defines "average monthly household expenses" as the necessary expenses for living, excluding capital accumulation expenses such as purchasing homes or land. It also excludes non-consumable expenses, including taxes, gifts, donations, insurance premiums, lottery purchases, loan interest, and other non-consumable expenses.

Thai Households in the Central Region (excluding Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan) have an average household income of 27,042 Baht per month, while the average household expenses are 21,120 Baht per month. The province with the largest difference between these two figures is Chanthaburi, with an average of 12,274 Baht per month, while Kanchanaburi has the smallest difference at only 2,563 Baht per month.

Thai Households in the Southern Region have an average household income of 26,913 Baht per month, with only four provinces above the average: Phuket, Surat Thani, Krabi, and Chumphon. The average household expenses are 21,381 Baht per month, with Surat Thani having the largest difference at 13,839 Baht per month, while Narathiwat has the smallest difference at only 2,200 Baht per month.

Thai Households in the Northeastern Region have an average household income of 20,271 Baht per month, with Chaiyaphum having the highest income in this region. The average household expenses are 16,513 Baht per month, with Ubon Ratchathani having the largest difference at 8,334 Baht per month, while Udon Thani has the smallest difference at only 703 Baht per month.

Thai Households in the Northern Region have an average household income of 19,046 Baht per month, with the three provinces with the highest household incomes being Lamphun, Phetchabun, and Sukhothai. The average household expenses are 15,329 Baht per month, with Sukhothai having the largest difference at 6,259 Baht per month, while Phitsanulok has the smallest difference at only 1,010 Baht per month. ---TerraBKK
