Embracing Change: Turning Crisis into Opportunity
Transform Crisis into Opportunity sounds uplifting, but when we think about it, crises can be quite frightening. How can we turn a crisis into an opportunity? Let's read the following story from the personal experience of Yoon Moon-won, the author of Strong Young People, Sensitive Young People, to discover how we can make a crisis our opportunity.
Many people, when faced with a crisis or significant problems in life, often feel discouraged and reluctant to push themselves forward. This is truly unfortunate. Yoon Moon-won states that the first thing we must do is to avoid being around those who constantly complain, saying things like “We've always done it this way; why change?” These are the people who refuse to accept new ideas and fail to develop themselves in line with the times, while others are moving forward.
If you associate with such individuals, you may find yourself thinking that you don't want to develop your own potential either. In this rapidly changing era, clinging to old thoughts will undoubtedly lead to future problems if you refuse to change.
“Let go of the rope you are holding tightly and grab the new rope in front of you.”
Do not fear or feel discouraged by change, as the world today is no longer bound by old norms. This is your opportunity to transform yourself, as the saying goes:
“A tree must shed its petals before it can bear fruit.”
Everyone fears the uncertainties of life, often sticking to familiar routines because they believe it is safe. Psychologists refer to this as the Comfort Zone. Yoon Moon-won believes that living within a comfort zone is not unusual, but in the workplace, there is no such thing as a comfort zone anymore. If everyone around you is changing with the trends and you refuse to step out of your comfort zone, you will become outdated and find it much harder to navigate your career than others.
“Hiding in your comfort zone does not help you improve.”
The solution to overcoming the fear of change is to adjust our mindset, viewing it as a fun game with friends who are chasing us. Imagine your friends are getting closer, and you run with all your might. Sometimes you evade them, and sometimes you get caught, but in the end, you still enjoy the chase, right?
There is nothing to fear about change. Ride the waves of change and observe them without attachment, using new ideas as your new allies.
