Which Province Has the Highest Hidden Population?
In this era of urbanization, relocating to areas with job opportunities has become a common phenomenon. The population residing in a location different from their registered address is referred to as 'Hidden Population'. TerraBKK has found interesting data regarding the number of Hidden Population in each province of Thailand, which we would like to present as follows.
What is Hidden Population?
In 2017, the Hidden Population reached 8.07 million people. The classification of Hidden Population can be divided into two categories:
- Night Hidden Population (Non-registered Population), which refers to the group of people who reside in one province but are not registered in that province's household registration. In 2017, the Night Hidden Population numbered over 7.5 million, accounting for 10% of the total population of Thailand.
In 2017, the figures for Hidden Population were particularly interesting. While the Night Hidden Population across Thailand decreased by 200,000, this decline was observed in every region of the country, except for the southern region, which saw an increase of 3,000 people in the Hidden Population.
- Day Hidden Population (Commuter Population) totaled 32 million, representing 1.9% of the national population. This can be further divided into Day Hidden Population who come to work in provinces where they do not reside, with 1.11 million people aged 15 and older, and another group of Day Hidden Population who come to study in provinces where they do not reside, numbering 216,000.

Top 5 Provinces with the Highest Hidden Population
According to the 2017 Migration Survey, the province with the highest number of Hidden Population is Bangkok, where the majority are Night Hidden Population, accounting for 30.2% of the total Night Hidden Population. This is not surprising, followed by Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Samut Sakhon, and Nonthaburi in that order.
For the Day Hidden Population, which can also be divided into those who come to study, the highest numbers are in Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Bangkok, and Pathum Thani, respectively. The Day Hidden Population who come to work includes Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon in that order.

Although overall, Bangkok has the highest number of Hidden Population, it is interesting to note that Nonthaburi has the highest number of Day Hidden Population, especially among those who come to work, surpassing Bangkok and Pathum Thani with a total of 214,000 people - เทอร์ร่า บีเคเค
