3 Herbs Against Venomous Creatures
One thing that often accompanies the rainy season is the presence of various venomous creatures such as snakes, centipedes, scorpions, and spiders. Importantly, it has been found that these venomous animals are increasingly dangerous. There are several herbs that can help deal with these venomous creatures, serving as first aid before reaching a doctor.
1. Tiliacora triandra (Sleek vine)
Research indicates that “Tiliacora triandra” can counteract venom from up to 8 types of animals, including bees, wasps, centipedes, scorpions, ants, mosquitoes, and snakes. Both male and female Tiliacora triandra can be used. When bitten or stung by a venomous creature, take about 25-30 leaves that are neither too young nor too old, wash them clean, and have the person bitten by a snake or venomous animal chew and swallow only the juice, then spit out the pulp to apply to the wound. The leaves will help absorb the venom and alleviate pain within 30-45 minutes. Alternatively, the root (which has a bland, cooling taste) can be crushed with white liquor to drink and apply to counteract snake venom and insect stings, as well as to relieve centipede and scorpion venom.
2. Flying centipede or stone centipede
This can be used to counteract scorpion and centipede stings and is effective for reducing bruising and swelling. Locals often use the fresh stems and leaves, pounding them with liquor or rice washing water to extract the juice for application, and use the pulp to pack the area affected by the sting.
3. Red onion
This is a household herb that can be used to counteract spider venom. There are reports from patients who visited traditional healers, where the healer instructed them to crush red onions and mix them with balm to apply to the bitten area and to consume as well, doing this every 5-10 minutes for about 3-4 times. The symptoms improved remarkably. Since spiders are cold-blooded venomous creatures, hot substances like red onions are needed to counteract the venom, and the balm enhances the effectiveness, helping to expel the poison. However, if bitten by a snake or experiencing severe venom from creatures like multiple bee stings, it is strongly advised to rush to the hospital first, as there may be a need for intravenous medication before serious harm occurs, or the type of snake may be unknown, necessitating serum treatment to save a life.
