Easy Ways to Shell Seafood for Maximum Meat
Fresh and Delicious Seafood is a Favorite for Many. To Enjoy It Fully, We Must Choose Seafood from Fresh and Clean Sources. However, the Taste and Enjoyment of Seafood like Crabs, Shrimp, and Clams Can Often Be Diminished by the Difficulty of Shelling Them, Leading Many to Give Up on Cracking Open Crabs.
Today, my home has some tips for those struggling with shelling crabs, shrimp, and clams. The key is to use easily accessible tools like forks and scissors to assist in the process.
How to Open Clams with a Tight Lid
When eating clams, one common issue is that some clams are tightly closed, making it difficult to open them even with a fork. This often leads to giving up on eating them, or some may try to use their nails, which can result in minor injuries. The method that my home presents today is very simple, using just two regular spoons and some force.
Let's see how it's done!
1. Use two spoons, placing one upside down and the other right side up at the bottom of the clam where it curves out. Use the lever principle to pry open the tightly closed clam lid from the back.

2. Apply pressure on the handles of both spoons to help pry the clam lid open from the back. When you hear a pop, you’ll have delicious clams without hurting your hands or damaging your nails!
How to Shell Shrimp with a Fork and Spoon
Shrimp is a beloved food for many. Usually, when eating shrimp at home or in a place where washing hands is convenient, we shell them with our hands. However, when dining out or at special occasions where hand washing isn't easy, the traditional method may not work. Today, my home presents a way to shell shrimp without using your hands, using a spoon and fork to extract the delicious shrimp meat without making a mess.
1. Use a spoon to cut the head off the shrimp first. You may use a fork to hold the shrimp in place while cutting off the head.

2. Keep the fork in place at the back of the shrimp from the first step. Then, use the spoon to peel off the shrimp shell up to the tail joint, cutting off all the legs.

3. Use the spoon to press down on the last joint of the shrimp tail, then pull to remove the meat from the shell completely. Now you have shrimp meat without the shell to worry about, and your hands stay clean!
How to Shell Blue Crabs
Blue crabs can be somewhat challenging to shell, but getting beautiful, intact meat like in restaurants is not as difficult as it seems. Just make sure the blue crab you choose is fresh; if it’s not fresh enough, the meat won’t hold together nicely. The method my home presents today uses only scissors to help shell the crab, but if you don’t have scissors, you can use the handle of a spoon instead.

1. Start by removing the crab's belly from the body, then take off the crab shell by prying it from the bottom.

2. Remove all the crab meat, then break the crab in half to separate it into two parts.

3. Use your fingers to push from the back of the crab to separate the claws, removing any unrelated shells.

4. For the crab legs and claws, use scissors to press on the joints twice, then gently pull them out to get full meat. The smaller legs can be shelled using the same method.
