Stress-related headaches are the most common cause of headache symptoms. They often present as persistent headaches lasting from days to weeks or even months, causing discomfort without severe pain. The pain is typically constant and does not intensify beyond the initial onset, classified as a non-serious condition but can be chronic and recurrent.

Headaches that persist for days should be differentiated from other causes, such as:

1. Migraine

Patients experience throbbing pain on one side of the head (less commonly on both sides), accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and blurred vision, lasting from 4 to 72 hours. These episodes can recur, often triggered by factors such as light, sound, strong smells, lack of sleep, hunger, extreme temperatures, certain foods, alcohol, or monosodium glutamate. Symptoms typically begin in adolescence or early adulthood, and some individuals may also experience stress-related headaches.

2. Brain Tumor

Patients may experience diffuse headaches that are particularly severe upon waking in the morning, easing later in the day. The pain intensifies daily, causing patients to wake up in the early morning due to pain, which gradually becomes constant. Over time, symptoms may include vomiting, dizziness, double vision, weakness in limbs, seizures, memory loss, and changes in personality.

3. Other Neurological Disorders

Conditions such as cerebral hemorrhage or meningitis can cause severe headaches and vomiting from the onset. Some patients may also experience high fever, lethargy, or seizures.

4. Acute Glaucoma

Patients may experience sudden and severe pain in one eye and head, accompanied by blurred vision, eye irritation, and redness around the white part of the eye. The pain can persist for days and is unrelieved by pain medication.
