How Addicted Are Thais to the Internet?
When we wake up in the morning, do we reach for our phone or our toothbrush first? If I had to guess, I'd say nearly 70-80% of us grab our phones right after waking up (not counting the daily snooze button ritual). It's a chance to scroll through updates and catch up on friends' news before heading to the bathroom. Then, no matter where we go, we see people glued to their phones, whether chatting, reading news, checking emails, or browsing Facebook/Twitter. Some even say, “I can live without many things, but without 4G/Wi-Fi, I feel lost.” It's become a fifth necessity in life. Forgetting your wallet? You can borrow money. But forgetting your phone? That’s a whole day of anxiety. This raises the question: “How addicted are Thais to the Internet?”
Internet Usage in Thailand Increased by 21%

According to a survey by We Are Social Singapore, Thais' Internet usage has increased by 21%... If that’s hard to visualize, consider that in the past year, 8 million more Thais have started using the Internet. And that’s not all; we rank among the top 5 countries in the world for increasing Internet users, surpassing the global average of 10%.
Thailand Ranks Among the Top 20 Countries with the Highest Internet Usage

Currently, Thailand has a population of 68.22 million, with 46 million Internet users, which accounts for 67% of the population. So, how significant is 67%? It places us at 18th in the world, exceeding the global average of just 50%.

Facebook Remains the Most Popular Social Media Platform Among Thais

When it comes to social media, no one can dethrone the giant that is Facebook. Indeed, Facebook continues to hold the title of the most popular social media platform among Thais (and globally) with a share of 65% of all Internet users. Following closely is YouTube, with a share of 64%, and in third place is the popular Japanese chat app LINE, with 53% of Internet users.
What Do Thais Use the Internet For?

With such high Internet usage, what do we actually do online? First and foremost, 69% of Thais watch online videos, which is a significant increase from just 33% in January 2016. Next, 59% of Thais enjoy chatting, whether on LINE or Messenger, and 53% play games online, while 41% use mobile banking services via the Internet.
