Central Business District area (CBD) is the area where is the most variety of social and economic activities in Bangkok because this area is the source of embassies, main offices, export business, top class shopping malls, five stars hotels. Moreover, this area has the best public transportation options in Thailand including light railway systems (BTS and MRT), the BRT bus system, expressways and a harbor. The CBD can be divided into 3 main areas :
  • Silom – Sathorn includes Bang Rak and Sathorn. The main roads are Silom, Sathorn, and Narathiwas.
  • Sukhumvit – Ekkamai includes Pathum Wan, Watthana and Khlong Toei. The main roads are Sukhumvit, Asokmontri, and Rama IV
  • Rama III – Yan Nawa includes Yan Nawa and Bang Kho Laem. The main roads are Rama III and Charoen Krung.
The Urban (Urban) area is that which a large population, variety of social and economic activities such as marketplace of consumer goods and fashion items, tourist attractions of art and culture, and government institutions such as the military and the police. This area also has access to mass transportation including both BTS, MRT and expressway which connects it to the CBD. It can be divided into 4 main areas :
  • Phayathai – Ari – Saphan Khwai includes Ratchathewi, Phayathai, Pom Prap Satru Phai, Samphanthawong, Dusit, and Phra Nakhorn. The main roads are Phayathai, Phahon Yothin, Rama IV, Rama V and Rama VI. Access to the CBD by can be reached by the BTS Siam and Silom station.
  • Taksin – Thon Buri includes Khlong San, Thon Buri. Access to the CBD can be reached by the Taksin Bridge and the BTS Taksin station.
  • Rama IX – Ratchada includes Din Daeng and Huai Kwang. the main roads are Phetchaburi, Ratchadaphisek, and Rama IX. Access to CBD can be reached by the MRT Sukhumvit and Silom stations.
  • Chatuchak – Pracha Chuen – Rattanathibet includes Chatuchak, Bang Sue, and Nonthaburi municipalities. the main roads are Phahonyothin, Pracha Chuen and Tiwanon. Access to CBD can be reached by expressway and the purple line train.
The East Outer Ring Road area is located in area of East Kanchanaphisek Outer Ring Road. Its prominent point is easy access to the CBD and the urban area and also easy access to the route to the east provinces of Thailand which is where many of the industrial estates and distribution centers are located. When considering access to the CBD access and urban area, they can be divided into 3 zones : 1. Close to CBD zone, connected by Ekkamai – Ran Inthra road, includes
  • Phattanakarn – Khlong Tan - Prawet
  • On Nut – Srinakarin – Bang Na
  • Lat Phrao – Ram Khamhaeng – Bang Kapi
2. Close to the urban zone, connected by Viphawadi – Rangsit road and Phahon Yothin, road includes
  • Chaeng Wattana – Don Mueang - Tiwanon
  • Watcharapol – Sai Mai
  • Kaset Nawamintr – Ram Inthra
3. Close to the perimeters are Saphan Sung – Min Buri – Lat krabang which connect to Chachoengsao province. The West Outer Ring Road area is located in area of West Kanchanaphisek Outer Ring Road. Its prominent point is its connection to 5 outer Bangkok-area provinces icluding as Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani. This allows growth from -the government- a policy of a mega project of transportation improvement including both a railway bridge to cross the river and an expressway. When considering access to the CBD and urban area, it can be divided into 3 zones : 1. Close to CBD zone, connected by Kanchanaphisek road, includes :
  • Pin Klao – Taling Chan – Rama VII
  • Phetkasem – Bang Khae - Phutthamonthon
2. Close to the urban zone, connected by Phetkasem Road :
  • Ratchapruk – Nakhon In
  • Kanlapapruk - Ekkachai
3. Close to other provinces zone :
  • Rama II – Bang Khun - Thein
  • Suk Sawat - Thung Khru - Rat Burana
The suburban area is the area on front of Bangkok in the side of the West Outer Ring Road and the East Outer Ring Road. It can be divided into the following areas :
  • Rangsit – Lam Luk Ka area
  • Nonthaburi – Bang Yai – Bang Bua Thong area
  • Pathum Thani area
  • Samut Prakan area
  • Other areas
